Tonight I made the Sichuan-Style Stir-Fried Chicken and Peanuts from Jan/Feb '00. My daughter, Sarah, asked me what I was making for dinner and I told her and said that everyone on the bulletin board was raving about it. She looked at me skeptically and said, "Yes, but what did Grace say about it?". I laughed and laughed!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif Even my daughter now looks for your reviews...
Hope you are having a great weekend!
Peggy
P.S. My DH rates it as an "8" on your DH's scale. Sarah gives it a "7.75" and I give it an "8.5"!! Have you tried it yet? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

ROFLMAO!!!!!
TOO Funny!! Only thing is now, I'm going to have to be really careful with my reviews... The pressure is on!
As far as that recipe goes, I did indeed make it, and we liked it very well except for the fact that it didn't have enough vegetables for our liking (but those we can add with no problem). My husband gobbled it and all the leftovers up. He only gave it a 6 out of 10, but it was because of the lack of veggies rather than not liking the flavor. Next time I will add carrots, broccoli, green/red peppers, sugar snap peas or pea pods, and maybe even some sprouts. I'll also add a touch more of that chili sauce, just so it's a little more spicy. It won't really be Kung Pao Chicken anymore, but I'm sure my husband will give it an 8 or 9 with all that in it. The flavor of the sauce was wonderful, in both our opinions. I FINALLY found a wonderful asian market that's not too far away, and they literally had everything I could possibly want there. I bought a GALLON of rice wine!! (The Shaoxing kind, not the fakey mirin kind from the grocery store). I also found a wonderful quality low-sodium soy sauce, and bought a huge bottle of that too. So as soon as my kitchen is done being remodeled, I am going to get in there and start making a ton of chinese stuff.
Anyhow, tell your daughter I'm quite flattered, but that it works both ways - I look for YOUR reviews too (so tell her I'll be counting on her for her thoughts too!) Thanks Peggy!

Grace, I know you live in Chicago and I think you're near me (I'm in Rogers Park). Would you mind posting where the Asian market you found is? I made the Malaysian Lime Coconut Swordfish Friday night and couldn't find fish sauce anywhere (had to substitute soy sauce). I'd love to find an Asian grocery store nearby. Thanks!

LG:
Yes, I'm in Norwood Park, and the Asian Market (and cooking school! I'm going to take a few classes there...) is called "Oriental Food Market and Cooking School". I don't have the EXACT address (411 would have it), but it's on the Southwest corner of the 2800 block of Howard St. (Which is really near you - it's Rogers Park). Anyhow, I was driving home from Evanston and just happened to pass it and notice it. They have the most wonderful ingredients there. Do check it out! Have fun!

FYI...I've started looking for your reviews too. It seems my tastes are very similar to yours as well. No pressure..... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

NydiaC,
Glad to know your tastes are similar also! This of course means I will be watching for YOUR comments and recommendations!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif It is such a time saver when you know someone has similar likes and dislikes. It helps you screen recipes ahead of time.
Welcome to the group!

Grace, thanks so much! I think a friend of mine takes classes at that school. Didn't know the name of it so I didn't know it was a market, too. Next time I go to Target on Howard, I'll check it out. Thanks again!
