View Full Version : Pre-basted Turkey for Brining?

I want to try using Alton Brown's turkey brining recipe - it has gotten such good reviews on the BB. But I've noticed that most of the frozen turkeys I've seen are pre-basted (blech). Can you use a pre-basted turkey for brining? Or will I need to hunt down an un-basted one?

I'm not sure if you got an answer yet, but I'm bumping this up just in case...sorry, I've never brined, so I can't help you out.

You probably wouldn't want to brine a pre-basted turkey since it has already had broth/oil added to give extra moisture.
