View Full Version : using thyme
Does anyone know something I don't know about getting the little thyme leaves off their stems? I spent far too long getting together 2 tablespoons today; felt like it was 2 cups.
By the time I was done, I was wishing I had used dried. Thanks ahead of time.

I usually just hold the stem in one hand and then strip downwards with the other hand.

I usually chop the stems up along with the leaves of thyme. Unless the stems are unusually (or offensively) spindley or tough, I find that thyme doesn't require a whole lot of extra attention http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

idgy,
I hope I can translate what I mean regarding this... don't go down the stem of the thyme, come up it using a pinched finger and thumb. Works well for me until the very end of the stem. Good luck!

Gail,
Aren't you articulate! That's exactly what I meant. Thanks for taking care of me. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Maybe what you mean is that you're going against the natural growth direction of the thyme, which makes the stuff pop off the stem pretty easily.
