I saw this recipe on the Food Network page and despite its goofy (IMHO!) name it was very good and pretty quick as well! I halved the recipe...drained most of the bacon fat-used 40% less fat bacon and coarsley chopped the cashews. It is a definite repeater! I was actually testing it for use at a party this weekend and it passed by flying colors! I would actually double the bacon next time...yes-it adds a bit of fat but I did drain most of the grease and plan to again use the 40% less fat bacon!

Fancy Green Beans
Recipe courtesy Paula Deen

Recipe Summary
Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes
Yield: 6 to 8 servings
2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans
2 slices bacon
1/2 cup red bell pepper strips
1/2 cup thin onion wedges
1/2 cup whole cashews

In a small bowl, stir together the teriyaki sauce, honey, and butter.
Fill a bowl with cold water and ice cubes.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the lemon juice. Drop in the beans and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until beans are bright green. Drain the beans in a colander and then plunge them into the iced water. Drain again and set aside.

In a skillet, cook the bacon until very crispy, crumble and set aside. Saute the bell pepper and onion in the hot bacon fat for 2 minutes. Add the beans, cashews, and bacon to the skillet. Add the teriyaki-honey sauce and toss gently.

I printed this recipe off the site as well to try for my side contribution for Thanksgiving. Thanks for giving it a trial run (something I never do!) and giving it a thumbs up....I feel better about making it now!

I forgot to include in my original post that I used the Soy Vey brand of teriyaki sauce...I would think the brand used could change the flavor since they can be very differnt. That said though...there was not a huge terriaki type taste-rather just something rather addicting:-).

Thanks for the review! I might have to make these for Thanksgiving. I'll probably cheat and use frozen green beans though. :o

This sounds good! I have a frozen vegetable combo with green beans, yellow wax beans, and carrots. I think I will try it with that.

Thanks for the review. This was one of the recipes from Paula Deen's book that I'm thinking of making over the holidays. All of her recipes have been winners so far! :)

You're right...the name is cracking me up! What exactly is it that makes it "fancy"?? Plus, I've got that "pawla deeeen" twang in my head as I say it.
