Did you guys see ER??? OH my gosh!!! When I saw that helicopter going down I actually screamed Oh No same time as Romano did. Looks like Romano survived first helicopter tragedy but not this one. Why did they write him off????

I was wondering who was going to get knocked off but I never guessed Romano! I guess they just couldn't do very much more with his character, he was too unlikeable to have a love interest or any type of life outside of the ER. I will miss him though, he was pretty funny.

I was tempted to post the same thread Vanessa!
I will miss that bald little son-of-a-b****! Excuse my language, but I don't know that you could decribe him any nicer than that. :D
The thing with TV is that you never know if a character is written out because it's just time, because the studio let the actor go or if the actor him/herself decided it was time to go.
One thing is for sure, Romano was reaching the point where he really did need to be put out of his misery. I just didn't think they'd do it quite so outrageously.

I am so glad somebody posted this! I was wondering who did not survive but I forgot to set the VCR--went to see the Blue Man Group instead.

I said "Oh no" too, but I was glad to see the little pisher gone. Geez he was a poooop! I thought that Neela was going to get killed off since her character is so new. I did like it though when Ansbach told Pratt that he was a fine doctor. :)
Now the Susan and Chuck thing will be interesting since she was going to dump him. I hope she doesn't lead him on during his recovery.
More twists to keep us watching!

Dumb question, since I didn't watch it all. I saw it land on Romano, and later people were asking where Romano was, but they don't actually know it got him, do they?

At the very tail end it shows the fire dept crew lifting the skeleton of the chopper off of the ground and there's "stuff" on the ground under it. They were taking pictures and stuff.
(Ewwww...)

I don't think so. I was expecting them to find a body burned beyond recognition, but then find his prosthetic arm/hand or something and know it was him from that.
Who was the nurse who got the chard of something in her back?

I'm so disappointed and pi$$ed!! He was the guy I loved to hate! And I thought he was hilarious. I'm also wondering if he wanted off the show or if they just wanted him off.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but DD and I actually starting laughing when the helicopter dropped on Romano! It's like helicopters are stalking him, or something! DD said it was almost cartoonish! Inappropriate response, but it was just so out there!
By the way, I loved it when Susan looked around and saw that her ex was alive; really sweet.

When that helicopter fell, DH and I sort of laughed about it- it really was kind of cheesy to have Romano lose his life to a helicopter. But at the same time, we loved to hate him too. I've had this morbid wish that he and Dr. Corday would hook up. Guess they won't now.
I was surprised though that they left it that way at the end- without everyone knowing about him.
And what was with the glimpse of Carter towards the end? That really didn't make sense...and in bed with Thandie Newton?

Glad to see this thread now - I checked earlier today just to see people's reactions...but there weren't any yet!
I heard it all from DH, becasue that show has become too upsetting to watch just before bed (for me, at least).
I can't believe they ended things with Romano that way, either. I thought he was going to be around until the bitter end. How very ironic to have two accidents with a helicopter!
This reminds me of Rosalind Shays falling down the elevator shaft in LA Law years ago. We watched a tape of that part of the episode at lunch the next day, for the benefit of those who had missed it. I can still see the look on one friend's face as she realized what had just happened.
After he told me about Romano, I kept asking my husband, "Is he really dead? Is there a chance we'll find out next week that he survived, or that it was a near miss?" etc. Hard to believe.

I'm with Linda, I kind of liked Romano as a character although I would never tolerate someone like that in real life. To most of the ER staff, the fact that he was not around after the accident must of been refreshing - nobody thought to even think that something happened to him. I wonder if they will say anything about his death on the next epside (I assume it's 2 weeks away).

I checked the ER website and the next show won't be until 12/4. There is a mention about Romano's funeral....

I'll miss Romano too. He was an angry person, but it would have been great if they could come up with a story-line to soften him up a bit. Guess the actor who played him just wanted to leave.
Looks like Carter is coming back. Maybe he's going to take Romano's place as head of the ER.

For a few minutes, I thought half the actors on ER wanted off the show mid-season!

I thought they should have gone a different way with his character and softened him up by getting him together with Corday ;) Oh well. Now he is road pizza under the helicopter so that's not going to happen. I will be sorry to see him go because even though he was nasty, he was very funny and had some of the best one-liners on the show.

I for one, will miss Romano. I liked his abrasiveness, not for it's own sake, but because it's true to life, and made for good stories.
Having said that, though, I think it was/is definitely time to shake things up at the e.r., since I was getting weary of the 'Pratt is a loose cannon' and 'Romano is an ***' and 'Abby lacks confidence' and 'Carter is adrift' and 'Dr. Corday is grieving' line of things.
Now that Kovacs has gotten over whatever was the matter with him last season, and Carter seems due for a return, I think they've set things up for an interesting new range of stories.
I am, however, tired of Morris. Losers and their excuses just aren't intriguing to me. If his character can't stomach medicine, time to move on. I don't find it good drama.

I for one will miss the ever sarcastic sardonic Dr. Ramano. I too was hoping someday his story line would kick in with a love affair with Elizabeth. My husband only watched the show because of him so it looks like I will be on the couch alone.
Does anyone want to offer any feedback on Susan's EX? My friend thinks there is something inherently creepy about him and is wondering where he was when the chopper went down because you didn't see him on the roof. I told her she was way off but anyone care to comment?

Teresa,
I watched the end of the episode again, and they don't show Chuck and Mel in any more detail than when they first approch the chopper to load the patient getting transferred. After that, you don't see Chuck or Mel again at all until they're downstairs, at which point Mel's already on a gurney getting iv fluids. I'm not sure where they were that Chuck had a gurney and all the supplies to treat him, but you don't see the two guys at all when Neela and the nurse that gets hurt are waving goodbye to the chopper.
(What's Mel, an orderly? I don't really know him. In this episode, he's the guy in the green bandanna that gets hurt, and Pratt saves him by defying Kerry Weaver)
I agree that I'm not sure I like Chuck. Some of the things he said to Susan really were icky. Actual romance did not seem to be in evidence. (Remember when he brought up marriage or whatever in that creepy way. Was that this episode, or last week?)

That's an interesting theory about flight nurse guy (Susan's ex). I'd be surprised if they turned him into a creep. I think he's supposed to lighten the show a little bit with this attitude and happy outlook. If anything, he and Susan are going to decide they want to go ahead and have a baby.
