Hi there:

I recently tried Starbuck's Tazo Chai, and am now hooked!! Since I can't really afford a $3.00 cup of tea every day, does anyone know who to make this from scratch.

I know there's a bunch of spices and some honey that sweetens it, but have no clue as to how much spice to use.

Thanks for your help.

You may want to just order it from the Tazo website. It is www.tazo.com (http://www.tazo.com) Gina

You can also buy chai masala at some spice shops and concoct your own tea. Here's a technique to follow if you choose this route:

For 2 cups of chai:

In a pot, heat 1 cup water & 1 cup milk.
Add 1/5 teaspoon Chai Masala
Add 2 teaspoons Tea Leaves.
Stir occasionally & bring to a boil.
Strain & add sugar or honey to sweeten and enjoy!

Prepared chai will have a golden brown hue.
______

To shortcut this method, brew Chai tea bags or loose tea in a milk/water mixture until golden. Add honey to sweeten.

For more intense flavor, grate fresh ginger into tea as it brews.
_______

Here's a recipe for masala chai, if you'd like to make your own:

For the masala
Cinnamon 2 sticks
Ginger powder 1 tsp.
Cloves 3-4
Cardamoms 4-5
Fennel (aniseed) ½ tsp.
Peppercorn 1

Powder all the above ingredients & mix.Store in an airtight container.

You could also try Celestial Seasons Spiced Chai...it does not have the same spicy bite as Tazo...it's more mellow and less expensive. Try a little bit of cream or vanilla soy milk in it, delicious! Happy tea drinking!

If you live near a Trader Joe's, they make a Spiced Chai Latte. ($4.29--about 8 servings per container) I too am hooked, and there's a Starbuck's right across from my office building. It's an obsession that could get costly, so I keep a container in my desk for a mid-afternoon treat!

Post your request on CopyKat.com and maybe someone will come up with the recipe. Or just do a seach on their website. Secretrecipes.com might be able to help too.

I agree with Sharonf....Trader Joe's Spiced Chai tea (powder that you just add water) is delish. I also buy Oregon's liquid (add milk) from Trader Joe's which is good too. If you are looking for tea bag type chia tea then Stash Tea makes a good spicy one. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
