I am new to this forum and don't usually paticipate in these things. I do read them however. I guess I just had to find something I was pationate enough about to get involved. Anyhow, I am getting married in April and have put on 20 pounds since I met my SO. All that high fat cooking I was doing for him (it's been a while since I had someone worth cooking for). I sat him down a week ago and told him that I really want to get the weight off before the wedding and that from now on I would be cooking lowfat. He said that was fine with him but I could tell he was skeptical. I found this site and run out to buy the recent CL mag. I have since subscribed! I have made about 4 or 5 receipes from CL and they have all been great. Tonight I cooked the pizza in the jan/feb issue but I could not find ground pork or turkey, i did find ground chicken. I thought it would turn out terrible and applogized in advanced and told my family if it was as bad I thought it would be we would go out for real pizza. It turned out to be very good. SO wishes that I had made two and made me promise that I would next time.
Oh and I have manged to loses 5 pounds!! I just may cook this way for good!

Hooray for you, Hawkslady! And congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. If you and your SO start eating like this all the time, you can hopefully count on a long life together. Good luck, welcome to the board and, again, congratulations!

That's wonderful! Congrats on both accounts!
I have had so much fun trying the recipes in CL. There have only been a couple that didn't work for us. It is amazing how much I have enjoyed making dinner and I get my DH involved. He has come a long way. His night to cook started out as soup and sandwiches! CL makes it pretty easy to eat low fat and flavorful.

That's great Hawkslady! There are many of us on this board who have lost weight and who have changed their eating habits so it's a great place to come for support if you need any- but it sounds like you're doing just fine on your own. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! See, eating light doesn't mean giving up good foods. I have finally convinced my husband of that.

Thank you all for your well wishes. I know what it takes to lose the weight. About 7 years ago I lost 55 pounds. I only gained back 20 after meating my fiance. But I do have to admit that I had never cooked this way before and felt very deprived in the past. When I was down to a comfortable weight I would eat "normal" and when my weight would begin to increase I would "diet" again. I don't think I will ever "diet" again. I think I finally get it when the say just change the way that you eat for life. I no longer feel deprived and I feel good about the food I am putting on the dinner table. I had not realized that I could accomplish both at the same time. Thanks for all the receipes that you all share on this board and thank goodness I found CL.

Hawkslady. What a nice compliment from your fiance! My husband's mom is a wonderful cook and he grew up with raised dough and other wonderful, but fattening foods. But since I've been cooking from CookingLight - he loves the meals that I prepare. I think what I enjoy best about the recipes is that they are healthy, not just fat free.
P.S. Congratulations on your upcoming Wedding.
