Hi everyone.

I would like to try making cookies with my boys this year using a cookie press. I have been searching the boards and reading posts about cookie presses and have found many yummy-sounding recipes.

Now I am trying to decide which press to buy. I am searching the internet and stumbled on this press from Chefs Catalog: http://www.chefscatalog.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod1880025&parentId=search&masterId=&grandMasterId=&cmCat=&index=&showCrumb=false&cm_ven=Performics&cm_cat=&cm_ite=cookie%20press

One of the complaints about Wilton was that it did not have enough discs. This one has 16 discs AND it has decorating tips as well. Anyone own this one?

I've also found the Atlas one on Amazon (Martha Stewart also carries this one in her catalog), the Kuhn Rikon brand on Cooking.com, and a Villaware, all with more discs than Wilton.

Any opinions on any of these?

Thanks! :)

Alysha

I have the Atlas one, and it works very well. It has been a few years since I used it last, but I remember being pleased with it. This probably isn't terribly helpful. Sorry! :(

It is helpful Laura! :) I am seriously considering the Atlas, so it's nice to hear that you were pleased with it or at least that you did not encounter any major troubles. :) Thanks!

Lindrusso,

I don't know how much help this is, but I have a metal one by Mirro. It is just like the one my mother had when I was growing up. It came with 3 pastry tips and 12 cookie forming plates. It is a nice heavy duty press that I only use once a year at Christmas to make my mother's cheese straws recipe that we made every Christmas. I do remember her making various cookies with it as well. I came with an instruction booklet containing more than 25 different recipes. I'm not sure where you might find this one, maybe Williams Sonoma. I want to say I ordered it from the Mirro website. Some of the other cookie presses on the market are plastic and won't hold up to the somewhat tougher dough than you would have with cookies.
If you wish any further information, just let me know. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply chefjon. :)

I ended up ordering the Atlas yesterday on Amazon (I like to order from that site because I know it will get here quickly) because there were only 3 left! It's stainless steel, so I'm sure it will hold up quite well.

But if anyone has any more opinions, I'd still appreciate input. It might help someone else and if I don't like the one I ordered, I can come back and read more. :)
