I recently got the recipe for the Butter Crunch Lemon Cheese Bars from the BB. The fat content was listed as 1g per bar for 8 bars. It seemed a little low for some of
ingredients listed and I decided to research it. I found that the 1/3 cup of butter has 61g, the 1 cup of 1% cottage cheese has 2g, and 1 large egg has 5g. That's 68g and divided by eight comes to about 8 1/2g per bar. Can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong? Is there some formula I should know? I'm really new at this.
Thanks,
Melina

Melina,

It looks like you received inaccurate fat grams with your recipe. Each bar has 281 calories and 9 grams of fat per the recipe in the issue. Hope that clears it up for you!

Hi goldilocks,
Thanks for the information. It nearly broke my heart, but thanks anyway. You have no idea how badly I wanted to be wrong.

I think I know what happened because I just checked out my own copy of the recipe in Mastercook (I get the recipes from Cookware). The recipe you got off the BB was probably copied/pasted into the BB by someone with Mastercook. In MC, unless an ingredient matches a defined ingredient (i.e. MC has nutritional information entered) letter for letter or the new ingredient has been "linked" to a defined ingredient, MC will ignore it in its nutrition calculations. I find that just about every recipe will produce incorrect nutrition info unless I edit it and clean up the ingredient list. I've always wondered why they don't just stick nutrition info from the mag right into the Cookware version of the recipe, but as far as I know, they don't.

It would be wonderful if these were only 1 g fat each!
Beth

FYI, with the CL CookWare software, the nutritional information stays intact directly from the original CL recipe. The software doesn't have a nutrional information calculator, so this is never a problem, unless CL prints it incorrectly to begin with (which is very rare). One of the other reasons why I like this software....

Wow, I didn't know that. I got Cookware with the first Cookpac I bought -- I think I fired it up once just to take a quick look. I only use Mastercook, though. Grace, how good is Cookware with searching and mealplanning? I love these features in MC, but the lack of easy, accurate nutritional info is a serious drawback.

Beth, to answer your question, the search feature/function is great. I can find anything it two seconds flat, but there is no meal planning at all. I have to do all that by myself, but for me it's not a problem. I've had the software since 1995, and I've bought every single cookpac since then, and I manually typed in the recipes from 1991 to 1994 (only the ones I liked, of course). So I have THOUSANDS of recipes in my software, and the beauty is, they're only the ones I want to be in there! I mean, when I get the cookpacs, I go through and select out only those that appeal to me to download into my software. So when I look for say, a recipe with asparagus, I type in asparagus, I click on the category I want (or I can search all the categories at once if I want), and I'll only get those recipes that I thought I would want to make at one time or another. I have sung the praises of this software since forever, and it really saves me a lot of time and energy. I know this board is full of happy MasterCook owners, but really, IMO, the CookWare software works best for me!

I just noticed today that MC 6.0 doesn't give me the same nutritional info as CL does. This was true even when the ingredients were entered with the fast-fill feature. I decided to just go with the one in the magazine--I type it into the directions. However, it does make me wonder how accurate any of the calorie counts are if there can be that much variance. I'd like to blame my big ol' butt on those inaccuracies, but I guess I'll have to stick with blaming how much goes in my mouth. However, 10 lbs. down and feeling good!
