I know, I know...there are tons of threads but I'm not finding what I want. I guess I don't really know what I want.
I need one more appetizer for Christmas. We have a huge breakfast and then open gifts, drink Dirty Mothers, and snack until dinner time. I'm going to make the Roasted Pepper-Cheese Dip with veggies and also make the Chipotle Cranberry Fruit Conserve and put it over a block of cream cheese to spread on crackers. I wasn't going to make anything else but my mom just called and said that she had found her old warming tray (a tray that you plug in to keep things warm, I guess) and will bring it over for me to use so I'm thinking that I want to use it.
I'm not going to be able to use my oven (the turkey takes up the whole oven). I need something that can be made ahead of time and is not too heavy but is fabulous.:D No mushrooms, please. Is there anything that fits all my criteria?

Please tell me, what is a Dirty Mother? And is it really a good idea to be drinking it?

Count me in on wanting to know what kind of drink a Dirty Mother is! For our alcoholic beverage, I'm making White Strawberry Sangria. I made it recently for our Supper Club and loved it.
Because we do 7 fishes and 13 desserts, I'm only having one appetizer -- Brie En Croute. Very yummy and delicious, and exceptionally easy to make. Hope this helps!

I'm going to make the Pork Meatballs with Garlic and Allspice from the Dec '03 CL. I'll use a crock pot but a warming tray would be great! I think a meat dish would be a good addition to your appetizer menu.
I'm also serving as appetizers: Sugared Cranberries, Lindrusso's Spinach Balls, Asian Spiced Pecans, and Sugared Almonds
Edited to clarify that I'm only making the meatballs and sauce, served with toothpicks -- no pasta.

How about an antipasto tray? Kind of a free-form arrangement of sliced Italian deli meats (I like proscuitto and salami), some fresh mozzarella, some marinated artichoke hearts, some roasted red peppers, whatever you feel like. Or for more of a finger-food, you can take the above ingredients and put them on skewers.

LOL!!!:D
Dirty Mothers are our family's traditional Christmas morning/opening the gifts drink. (We have Mimosas/Orange Blossoms with breakfast.) My parents and grandparents were drinking these before I was old enough to drink. They are basically an acoholic milk shake. My brother and bil man the blender and have been our official Dirty Mother makers for years. Since my siblings and I have had children, they also make regular milk shakes for the kids. After breakfast, we clear off the table, clean up the worst of the mess, and move into the living room while the 2 guys start making the drinks. Once we've all got one, the gift opening begins.
You can use whatever proportions you want but the ingredients are:
vanilla ice cream
milk (if necessary)
vodka
tequila
kahlua
chocolate sauce (optional)
Thanks for the appetizer suggestions.
I'm hoping to find something that I can use on the warming tray. Though, maybe I'll have to give up on that idea.
