Calling all Moosewood experts/fans! Thanks to the sweet potato thread, I called the bookstore tonite and they're holding the l-f Moosewood. I have the old Enchanted Broc. Forest, New Moosewood Favorites, Still Life w/Menu, the Moosewood Desserts Book, and Veg. Heaven. Here's my query: l) Is there a lot of overlap/repetition w/the l-f book and the others, or are these really l-f makeovers/new l-f recipes? I recognized what seem to be a few repeaters from your recommendations--Choc. Pudding (w/bananas?), the exceptional Lemon Pudding cake, Penne w/creamy walnut sauce (maybe). I'm just getting on the soy milk track barely, can't handle tofu (I KNOW I should!), and, tho I salute/respect the devotees of the sweet potato/black bean thing, that's a tad exotic for me--2) are there many Echanted Broccoli Forest casserole-type, veggie/cheese/rice/calzone/pasta recipes in the l-f book? 3) and while I'm at it, any feedback on the quality of recipes in her kid cookbooks? May as well get 'em all while I'm at it, right?!
I blew cookbook probation today when I went to pick up a newly ordered l-f baking book--Healthy Oven Baking (yeah, odd title, like, what else are you going to bake in, right?) by Sarah Phillips, '99--anybody have this one, got any faves from it? Will post any keepers, IF I CAN STOP BUYING OTHER COOKBOOKS LONG ENOUGH TO USE IT!!
Thanks, appreciate the feedback, and hugs

If you can find it at your local library, I would recommend checking it out before you buy it. That's what I did. Of course I loved it and bought it right away, but everyone is different.

Joanie,
As a fellow Moosewood devotee, I must highly recommend low-fat favorites. The Enchanted Broccoli Forest, The Moosewood Cookbook, Vegetable Heaven, Moosewood Low-fat Favorites, Moosewood Daily Special, Moosewood Cooks at Home, and Sundays at Moosewood complete my Moosewood collection, and I really haven't noticed much duplication at all. Also, the low-fat book is one of my favorites...there's just so much diversity of recipes, and they're all so delicious -- I've had a great time with it.
Also, something to keep in mind...although Mollie Katzen started the Moosewood restaurant, her cookbooks and the Moosewood Restaurant books are an entirely separate endeavor...she has nothing to do with them, so duplication between those should be rare.
Hope this helps!
Emily

Thanks so much for ALL the feedback, folks! What's l more cookbook in the big scheme of things, right? But I swear this is it for a while! Off to the bookstore for Low-Fat Moosewood, then I'm definitely on cookbook probation (again)!

Could you post the veggie lasagne recipe if you have time. I am looking for a good one. Thanks!

I just bought this cookbook at Barnes and Noble last night (not a big Superbowl fan)! It is my first Moosewood and I must admit I was inspired by all of the positive things I saw posted in an earlier thread on this board. I chose this over Cooks at Home mainly because of the "low-fat" in the title. The recipes in both were equally tempting! I can't wait to dig in and try a new recipe. I think the pasta and eggplant recipe will be my first one (love eggplant!)
As far as justifying the purchase-- I actually came home and told my husband I had purchased it for him (he doesn't do more than boil spaghetti or zap a veggie burger in the microwave!) since he has said several times recently he thinks he could be a vegetarian. We don't eat much meat but we both love a good filet mignon now and then. I told him I didn't think I could go without meat but I'm willing to try to focus more on vegetarian options. So . . . that's how I justified my purchase . . . a present for him. The happy ending is he was thrilled!

I am trying not to buy any more cookbooks for awhile until I go through my collection and do a "reality check" on which ones I REALLY want to keep-yeah, I know, famous last words.
The only Moosewood cookbook that I have in my collection is Moosewood Cooks at Home, although I have been tempted to buy the lowfat one.
Anyway, my point is that I love this book! It has wonderful dip, soup, frittata and salad recipes. Two of my most favorite recipes in the world are in this book: the Antipasta salad and pepper soup-which I tweak a little by roasting the peppers 1st-yum http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif !

I own Moosewood Cooks At Home and the Low-Fat Moosewood. I love both of them and am completely addicted to the veggie lasagna in the low-fat book...it is sooo good! I make it and freeze it into servings all the time!
