Inexpensive place to get a money order??

I recently bought The Enchanted Broccoli Forest on eBay and didn't realize that the seller didn't accept PayPal until I won the auction (for $1!!). Now I have to add to my overall cost (plus $4 shipping and you know Media Mail doesn't cost that much for 1 book that size) by sending the seller a money order.

My bank charges $2.50 which adds 50% to the cost of the book, bringing the total of my $1 book to $7.50. Does any other place sell money orders for less?

My bank doesn't charge anything, so maybe you have a greedy bank. I'd also recommend checking out 7-11 or a convenience store. I want to say that maybe the post office does them too, but I'm not sure.

I think the post office does, but please call and check first. But they charge some sort of fee, too.

The post office does issue money orders, and I believe for less than $1 each.

Another good source for inexpensive money orders is Western Union. A lot of grocery stores are WU "locations". I think a WU money order is also somewhere around $1.

I buy them at the grocery store, and the charge is 25 or 30 cents.

Back when I bought things off ebay, I always tried to use US Postal Service money orders.

I got curious and went to their website:

We used to get Money Orders at Longs, and they were less than a dollar.

My bank (Citizens) doesn't charge, either.

I've also gotten Western Union money orders for $1.00 at my local convenience store.

Thank you all! I ended up at the Post Office since I had to buy stamps and mail it anyway! They are 0.90 each (thanks Little Bit).

So the Enchanted Broccoli Forest ended up costing $6.27 including stamp. Not too bad!
