Since it's a tradition in my family to have some form of pork on New Year's Day for "Good Luck" throughout the year, I've located a pack of chops in the freezer...
Has anyone ever made them in the crockpot with sauerkraut?
I'm planning on browning the chops, rinsing the kraut, and layering them in the pot with a granny smith apple (my Mom says ALWAYS put an apple in with sauerkraut:D )...
Anyone have any other suggestions, or recipes?
Happy New Year ALL...

What time do you want us for your PA traditional dinner? My mom had a fit when she found out we were having roast chicken:eek:
I think your idea is the way to go but I wouldn't cook them very long, maybe 3 to 4 hours? Enjoy your day!! (Are you watching the Mummers?)

Gail, if you debone the pork chops and cut into cubes, add some caraway seeds, chopped onion, crushed garlic, some beef boullon, paprika, (sour cream at the end) oh yes, add the sourkraut, you have szekely gulyas!!!!
One of my favorites... Some great bread and a salad and you are set!!
Happy New Year

Susan,
The mummers parade is only visible in the Philadelphia area as I learned long ago. Guess the rest of the country is not interested in such a local event, fabulous as it may be! Miss not being able to watch it here in State College.
Happy New Year's Day!

Szekely gulyas is on my menu for this next week. I will email when we get back from shopping this afternoon. How can the rest of the world exist without "Those Golden Slippers"?;)

Joan,
I still have some of the sweet paprika you sent me from Hungary...it was a great addition to my chops & sauerkraut:D
I try to ration it out...it's so much better than any you get in America...and I think of you every time I use it ;)
