I'm spending today cleaning out my pantry and kitchen cabinets (and laundry room). It feels so good to get organized! I've rotated out some things from the kitchen that I don't use often to pantry storage. I've also moved some lesser used things to the top shelves in the kitchen. I've purged my spoon and tool drawers--tossing some things and moving others to the pantry.
In the pantry I've put things back where the belong (baking shelf, rice pasta, ethnic foods etc).
I got new spice jars that actually fit in my drawer--I only bought enough for about 1/3 of my spices to test the new system.
This weekend I worked on my closet...
Aaaahhh. It just feels so good to start the new year clean!
Anyone else?

We cleaned out our attic on Saturday - and I agree - it feels great to have that space organized. My goal for next weekend is to move some of our less-used items up to the attic, now that I know where I can put them (and will be able to find them when I go hunting).
We're going to have one helluva garage sale when we move. It's amazing how much crap you can accumulate!

Oh yes, a lot of us have been on a cleaning/organizing spree. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a thing done today.

I want to SIGNIFICANTLY scale back our stuff before we move our household to Phoenix this summer. We're talking get rid of EVERYTHING that hasn't been used/worn/touched/viewed in more than a year. I started this past weekend by going through our office desk and pitching as much stuff as I could find. I reserved a small pile of stuff (stuff that I thought was trash and would have thrown away) for DH to pick through when he got home, and he did pull a few items out. It was stuff that was clearly practical and useful for SOMEONE, but not for us, so why keep it? Like a protractor. Geeez, neither of us has used a protractor since probably high school! It was a nice one (where we got it, I have no idea), and he wasn't willing to just throw it away, but it's stuff like that that I have to wonder why we hold onto.
On my next visit, we plan to clear out the file cabinet. I am starting to wonder why we're holding onto bank statements, credit card statements, and pay stubs for 6 and 7 years. :o My new plan is to check it monthly and shred it. Really, is there any reason I need to keep credit card statements for accounts that aren't even open anymore?
My New Year's resolution is to become a minimalist. :D

I did it! I spent all day Friday cleaning. I cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, dusted all the furniture and floorboards, washed the sheets and tablecloth. (We vacuumed last weekend after we took down our Christmas tree.) I swept all the leaves off our balcony.
I cleaned the refrigerators, the microwave, the spice cabinet, and the pots/pans storage cabinet. I reorganized the freezer, the pantry, and the coat closet, also known as our everything closet. (OK, that one might still need some work.)
I ended the day with a nice long run just before dark. :)

Have you all seen that show on TLC - Clean Sweep? The idea is that they send in organizers to get rid of people's excess junk and help them decorate and organize their homes more efficiently. It's really interesting, but the funny part of the show is that when you see the "before pictures" these places are SO MESSY - crap EVERYWHERE - my DH and I are convinced that they tell the homeowners to purposely make it look like a tornado just went through - no one really lives that way, do they? I'm hardly a neat freak myself, but really ...
Anyway - this talk about cleaning out reminded me of it.

I actually unpacked about 4 boxes and 2 Rubbermaid containers on Sunday! Stuff for my sewing room that I hadn't gotten shelving for. Felt good to get more stuff out of the garage....over 1 year later!
