What do you use in the shower?

Hi Beth- I guess this is conjunction with your bath poof thread. :)

I always used a poof until we moved in August, at which point it became hopelessly lost in the millions of cardboard boxes in the new house. To date, I've yet to find it, soooo.....I've been using a washcloth instead.

And yes, I definitely could have bought a new one in the past 4 months, but have I remembered that I need one while in the store??? Of course not!

Mostly just my hands, but every once in awhile I use a nice body scrub (applied with my hands!). But I consider the scrubbing beads (or the sugar in the sugar scrub) along the lines of a loofa or poof or whatever. FWIW, those poofs and loofahs harbor TONS of bacteria and can cause breakouts and other such things. Washcloths can be washed in the washer, so those aren't so bad.

Just my hands. :)

I'm a loofah girl - it helps keep any ingrown hairs on my legs, post-waxing, under control.

I'm not overly fond of poofs, simply because they always seem so un-environmentally friendly to me.

Bath poof and Aveeno Body Gel, which begats lovely soft skin! Great for winter!

Paula, you've got my curiousity piqued - what is environmentally unfriendly about poofs?

I always thought only men used just their hands! I use a washcloth with soap, and a poofy with shower gel or body wash. I have fairly dry skin and need something to scrub with other than my hands. Oh, did you know that you can also wash the poofies in the washer? I just put them in a lingerie bag. I agree that they need to be washed just like a washcloth to keep down the yucks.

I use a poof with shower gel and soap with my hands, depends on the mood. I also wash mine in the washer about once a week.

I have a pretty bath brush - long handled, soft aqua, and I use shower gel or moisturizing soap on that.

I use a buffing sponge on my face in the shower.

Anyone use a different soap in the shower than they use at the sink?

Bath poof for me, with mint-scented shower gel. My poof is white; I dip it into a weak bleach solution once a week and let it air dry. I didn't know you could put it in the washing machine- I'll have to try that!

I used to use a poof but found that it would scratch my skin after awhile. Now I just use my hands, or a wash cloth at times, and every so often will exfoliate with a scrub.

I shower at the gym most mornings, and I don't have a permanent locker where I can let a poof dry, so I just use my hands, and shower gel.

I feel clean.

the poofs wash up like a dream in the lingerie bag like preveiously mentioned. I really like the lather I get from it. I am not so much a soap user in the shower though. I like the dove body wash and i also love Noxema on the poofy.

I use my hands. Never have to wonder where the heck the kids/cats have hidden them...

Just for fun, here's a possible myth I've heard about the invention of bath poofs. They were developed by a European bath products company for American use. Shower gel was selling well in Europe, but not in America for a while, because Americans are less comfortable touching their own bodies than Europeans are. The bath poof was developed to allow Americans to use shower gel without too much hands to body contact. Weird huh?

Is a loofah a sponge or other? I voted other.

I like my loofah because:
1. It's fun to say- loofah!! :D
2. It prevents ingrown hairs and bumpy skin.
3. It is all natural.

I try to avoid any extra/unneccessary plastic around the house, both for environment and do-I-really-need-more-toxins-around-me reasons, and so I tend to look at the poofs as just being yet more plastic that will sit around not biodegrading on the landfills.

I use a poof (which gets washed in the lingerie bag once a week) and I use a scrub brush once a week with a sugar scrub. I love the brush because it really gets my blood going (at first it use to hurt but I've gotten use to it) and I love the smell of the vanilla sugar scrub!

I voted my hands because that's what I use 75% of the time. I use a poof every few days and body scrub once a week in the winter.

I use a creamy body wash in the shower and hand soap at the sink. Cetaphil for face in both places.

Good point about the environmental impact of the poof. I never thought about it that way.

So I don't even have to ask what you think of those disposable dishcloths that Palmolive has just introduced?

My vote is for "other" (a loofah). I grew my own a few years ago and am on the last one from that harvest.

Is it hard to grow your own loofahs? Where do you get the seeds or plants? How very cool for a personalized gift basket!

About the same as my thoughts of anything with the word "disposable" in the name/description - can you guess??

Do you grow them from seed or something else? I've sometimes thought about trying to grow my own.

I grew them from seeds! A friend of mine grows some odd things, just to see if he can, like cotton (in PA!), tobacco (he doesn't smoke), peanuts, etc. and I thought I'd try something different too. They were easy to grow, although only one survived to harvest from. The most difficult thing is getting all of the seeds out so they don't scratch you as you use the loofah (I bought a pair of long tweezers for that). I believe that I bought the seeds from Burpee.

I'm a poof girl... used daily with my Bath & Body Works Freesia scented shower gel.
