Thanks, Gwenniver, for your post of 1/10/2001 that raved about this recipe! I made it last night, and it was fantastic! Thanks to all CL-ers who post reviews. I love CL, but frequently don't have time to try a lot of the recipes; I really appreciate hearing about the winners and the not-so-greats. Thanks!

I loved the taste of this dish but it took me much longer than the recipe said to reduce the cider sauce. Did anyone else run into this problem? TIA -- Beth

BethR, I had the same problem; it was taking forever to reduce. Because everything else was ready, was on the table and was getting cold, I finally just made the sauce with the extra liquid. It tasted fine, was just thinner that it was supposed to be. Maybe part of the problem was that the cider was cold from the fridge; next time, I'll take it out and let it get to room temp while the meat cooks.

Let me try this again, since my reply hasn't appeared. BethR, I had the same problem; the cider, etc took forever to reduce. Since I made it on SuperBowl Sunday and the other food was getting cold, I finished the sauce before it had reduced down to a cup. Tasted great, but was a little thin. When playing with the leftovers, I added additional sour cream, etc to try to accommodate the extra liquid -- made a nicer sauce. My cider was cold from the fridge -- next time, I'll take it out ahead of time. Also turn up the heat, I guess.
I made before thanksgiving and got good reviews as well. The funny thing I forgot to put the lid back on the dutch oven, my oldest cat Timothy took the last piece and was fighting the dog and the others to have it for himself. He seems to know a good thing when he sees it.

I just made this recipe and we enjoyed it a lot. I'll make it again. I also had difficulty reducing the sauce and ended up eating it with a thinner consistency than I would have liked. I think I'll add more flour next time and perhaps somewhat reduce the cider, broth mixture beforehand so it won't take so long. Anyway, thanks for bringing it to my notice.

It was so bizarre to see this posting! It's got my name on it, but I didn't remember posting it! Thought I was having a (not-quite-)-senior moment, then I looked at the date! Jan 2001!
Now that my memory is jogged, this was a great recipe! I'll have to make it soon . . .
