I'm looking for a specific toy - it is a ball with different shapes cut out of it, the child fits the pieces in the cut-outs and the pieces fit inside the ball. The ball pulls open to let the pieces out. Half the ball is red and half is blue. The shapes are circles, squares, stars, etc.

I know tupperware makes it and it is called Shape O Toy. It is $22, though and I don't want to pay that much for this toy. It seems like a lot of money for what kind of toy it is. I thought it was a Fischer-Price toy, but can't seem to find it.

Does anyone know if tupperware has always made this toy? If not, does anyone know who else might make it and if they still make it? Do you know another name for it?

I hope that made sense, but I don't know how else to describe it. Thank you for any help you can give me.

I know exactly what you're talking about- my sister had one when she was little.

Here's something similar from Playskool: http://www.hasbro.com/pl/page.viewproduct/product_id.8598/dn/playskool/default.cfm

I also found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3170776064&category=374

The one you are talking about has always been made by Tupperware. I had one to play with as a child, and my daughter has one now. You really can't beat the quality. They also make them now in a half purple/half teal version if you don't want the traditional red and blue. The price really isn't bad for the play value. DD has been playing with it for about two years now, and still goes back to it time and again. It started as a simple shape sorter for her, then progressed to a "learn the shape" type of game (something about a 2 1/2 year old saying trapezoid), and now she tries to see how fast she can get them all in.

(I also recall MY parents playing with one with their drinking buddies back in the day- apparantly it's not limited to kids);)

mrswaz beat me to the punch. I was just going to reply and say I looked everywhere for this toy and ended up getting a similar, but not nearly as cool toy from Fisher Price. The one you're thinking of is definitely Tupperware.

Robyncz & mrswaz - that is the exact toy I was thinking of. I didn't realize it had always been a tupperware toy.

AndreaU - thank you for the links. I completely forgot about Playskool. Their toy is quite similar (and quite a bit cheaper!). I'll have to check out the stores and see it in person before I get it, though.

Thank you all for the help. I certainly appreciate it!

This was a favorite toy of DH when he was younger and my mom was going to get the tupperware one for us since we're expecting our first child in April, but I just didn't want her to spend the money. Maybe I'll think about it though, since mrswaz said that her DD likes it so much. So many decisions! :)

Thanks again everyone!

I had one when I was little, too. Guess what? My mom still has it! Yes, it's pretty good quality. I would recommend that one. There are other shape sorters out there, too. My mom bought us one recommended by Parents magazine. It's got a little phone on it and makes some noises. My kids love it. DD has been playing with it for almost 2 years now.

I also had the tupperware one growing up, but never purchased one for my kids. I was just too lazy to find a tupperware lady.

We got the playskool one and DD2 really liked it. This one is easier to open/get the shapes out than the tupperware one.
