View Full Version : What can I sub for canned tomato sauce?

I want to make the sloppy joes from Jan/Feb 04 CL. I have tomato paste and diced tomatoes at home, but no sauce. I don't really want to stop at the store if I don't have to. Can I make sauce out of the paste? If so, what proportions do I use?

I'd toss both the paste and diced tomatoes together in a blender and lightly puree; if it was too strong from the paste, a little water would cut it.

I've used tomato paste thinned with some water when I haven't had any tomato sauce in the house. Works just fine.
Isn't tomato paste just cooked down (thickened) tomato sauce??
