A co-worker of mine brought in an order form this week for Girl Scout cookies. I ordered 5 boxes (such a good cause, you know). I always like to order my nostalgic favorites, Thin Mints and Trefoils for myself, and Samoas for DH. I was just wondering what everyone else's favorites were.

Mine would be thin mints and peanut butter patties. And did you know that if you consume Girl Scout cookies while riding a stationary bike they don't have any calories! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Cute topic. I agree it's a great cause. I miss the lemon sandwich cookies they used to have. I really don't care for any of the others, but I buy them and give them to my parents.

Funny story: Every Christmas at work we have a goodie day. The head of the department's assistant had a container on her desk full of little round chocolate covered cookies. She told me to try one, and I did - I said "Gee, went through an awful lot of trouble to make these Girl Scout Cookies, didn't you?" I swear they were identical to Thin Mints. (We are great friends.) She shot me a look and said "I'll have you know, I made those." She dipped Ritz crackers in melted dark chocolate flavored with mint, and there they were - her own, home-made Thin Mints.

To this day we laugh about that - and that was over 10 years ago!

I love the Samoas (although I noticed they have a new name this year) and the tag-a-longs (choc and pb)

My favorites are thin mints. I love to dunk them in either coffee or tea which melts the chocolate... yum !!!

I love thin mints and peanut butter patties. I can easily wolf down a whole box of p-nut butter patties myself, although I may have to start riding a sationary bike. ;0

I discovered years ago that GS cookies freeze fabulously well. I ordered 4 boxes this yr. My DH loves the thin mints (to my understanding, they are the most popular, in general. I am a GS alumni, after all - camping trips with REAL latrines--UGH!). I love any of the ones with peanut butter and also the ones with coconut, choc. and caramel.

I love the mints, lemon cookies and shortbread ones. I think I also ordered a new one this year....animal cracker cookie with chocolate coating. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My favorite cookie is the shortbread in a custard cup with sliced strawberries on top. Or, the shortbread cookies frozen straight from the freezer. My DH loves the Thin Mint cookies. I will have to try and find a recipe for the Thin Mint like cookies made from Ritz crackers.

As a teacher I seem to end up buying MORE boxes of girl scout cookies then I need! My favorite by far...THIN MINTS! hands down! It's for a good cause (agreed!) and therefore I never turn down anyone who asks me. That's a teacher for ya!

Since my daughter is a girl scout I have plenty of cookies to sample. I love the thin mints, especially crushed up into some ice cream. The new animal treasures are pretty good too.

Thin Mints! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
They're SO good stored in the freezer and eaten right from there.

Keebler has some awesome Grasshopper cookies that taste just like Thin Mints for the Girl Scout "off season."

Favorite? Gotta be Thin Mint, followed by shortbread, followed by samoas, followed by peanut butter patties... (I don't think there's any I don't like, sigh).

I used to love the Thin Mints, but since Keebler took over the baking of all the Girl Scout cookies (Chef Wendy, that's why the Grasshopper cookies taste just like the Thin Mints), I don't like any of them any more. I don't know what it is about Keebler (the shortening they use, maybe?), but their cookies seem to me to have an unpleasant aftertaste. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

Thin Mints and Tagalongs (I think that's what they're called- chocolate & peanut butter). I have 5 girls in my class who are in girl scouts, so to be fair I bought a box from each! Now I would love to eat them all, but that's not healthy... I'll probably share a couple boxes with the class.

Thin Mints and Tagalongs, esp. Thin Mints straight from the freezer...
A funny thing. I live in St. Paul, Minnesota, and apparently there is a baker that serves troops east of the Mississippi River and another that serves troops west of the river. So, St. Paul girls sell a slightly different mix of cookies than the Minneapolis girls, and some have different names,ie Caramel deLites and Samoas are the same cookie.
I bought mine from our neighbor girl. She is so cute--she had memorized all the cookie descriptions and recited them for me as I filled out the form http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Now, I just have to get across the river for those Animal Treasures...

Thin mints! Then samoas. My mom buys so many boxes each year since my neice sells them. She's been freezing them for years. My brother points that out to me every year "they freeze really well!" I got in trouble for only buying three boxes one year, but we just don't eat that many cookies at my house. I liked the lemon cookies, too. They used to have reduced fat lemon cookies, I believe. I like just about all of the varieties.

Samoas (the coconut/caramel/chocolate ones, right?). Haven't had them in so long, since the Girl Scouts don't seem to exist in our neighborhood, and no one at work has kids this age.

Anywhere to get these if you don't have a local, friendly Girl Scout?

Samoas for sure. Of course they're the ones that are the worst for you!

Samoas, Thin Mints and Trefoils (in that order) and I have to order all three if I am placing an order.

I LOVE the thin mints. It's a good thing people don't try to sell me these cookies very often or I'd buy WAY too many of them.

Stop! You're all torturing me! My girl scout cookie connection has completely dried up (or grown up I should say). I love Thin Mints and Somoas but don't know any girl scouts. Anyone have a daughter/niece/next door neighbor that may be able to do a long distance sale. Anyone.... Anyone.... help.

It's funny, but my tastes have changed since I sold them....and I hated selling Girl Scout Cookies! Especially when those bratty little girls' mothers would send out letters ahead of time and secure orders before selling time began! An eight-year-old can only have the door shut in her face so many times!

Anyway, when I was younger, I loved Samoas and Trefoils the best. Now, I'd have to say Tagalongs and Lemon Cremes.

LGBurns... I know exactly how you feel !!! I love GS cookies... some years the only opportunity I get to buy them is when they are being sold in front of the grocery stores !!!

Well, I have ordered from 2 different girl scouts this year - one in New York and one in Pennsylvania and guess what, a different selection! From the NY one, I ordered the Reduced Fat apple cinnamon cookies - delicious!! Like shortbread with a dusting of apple cinnamon flavor. From the one in PA, I ordered the Reduced Fat Lemon Pastry Creams - they should be arriving soon. I must say, the Girl Scouts do a pretty good job with their lower fat cookies - they taste great! Of course, I ordered some Samoas and Dos-i-does too - just for tradition's sake! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Thin mints and the lemon cookies. The reduced fat ones aren't bad!

Too funny....I just had this exact conversation over the weekend!!!

My favorite is the shortbread! BUT...does anyone else think they used to be better years ago when they used to actually have the "trefoil" (whatever it was called) on it? Maybe it's my imagination, but I somehow remember a very very light sprinkle of sugar on it.

Hate the buck the trend -- although I like the thin mints too, my very favorite are the Tagalongs (peanut butter and chocolate). Sometimes I buy an extra box and hide it at work; I try to only eat one (okay, two) cookies a day (and maybe even skip a day!), but DH and DD (dear daughter) eat them all so there's none left for me!

we discovered the GS cookie name variations in college...

we were having a heated debate about "scot teas" vs. "trefoils" and "carmel delights" vs. "samoas". we finally realized that different regions have different cookie names. but i took it one step too far when i revealed that our "tagalongs", in kansas city, were called "hoedowns"... everyone died laughing and i haven't heard the end of it!

bring back the scot teas!!!!!

My favorites are the shortbread, tagalongs and thin mints. I could eat the whole box of shortbreads but I try to make them last a couple of days.

Thin mints, for sure...but this year I'm trying a new one...can't remember the creative name, but they are basically macedamia nuts and white chocolate...can't wait to try them..I'll let you know!!

Melman, you're right- there used to be Trefoils, which did have a dusting of sugar. As for names by region, I sold GS cookies for several years (and many of them!) and I remember the shortbread cookies being called both Scot-teas AND Trefoils. I guess they just change names from time to time and vary them by region.

Thin mints, frozen if possible.

We just moved into a new neighborhood and the girls across the street (who's parent's had already asked us to the neigborhood Christmas party..before we moved!) came calling recently. I wanted to be a good new neighbor and order as many as others in the 'hood. Then I looked and saw that most others were orderering 10 or more boxes!!!!! I ordered 5, which is more than I need to have around my house, when I am trying to lose weight.

Now, I am counting the days til they get here.

Okay for all you troop leaders, I need to vent. About 4-5 years ago Girl Scouts came out with a lowfat Ginger snap called "Snaps." You could eat a whole sleeve for only 7.5 grams of fat. (I calculated that after consuming a whole sleeve one day http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif Now they are gone. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif Now of course, I know you folks don't have anything to do with the selection of cookies and I really do admire how much time and effort you put into a VERY worthwhile cause. But I REALLY miss those cookies!
