Hi all,

I was all set to head off to the grocery store to buy the ingrediants for barbecue chicken pot pie, when I noticed cumin seeds. Do I have to buy this? or can I just use the regular cumin I have? The stuff I have is ground up. I am not sure if it the same or if I would use the same amount? I am just so confused. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks So Much

I always just use ground cumin and it turns out great.

Katy,

I'm bumping it back to the top because I've been wondering the same thing!

hlao23,

How do you alter the measurements?

Oops, I was just going to update my post. I use the same amount called for. I do love cumin but I don't think you can pick out the cumin flavor even with the change.

Ground cumin might be better in this recipe. I would reduce the amount a little bit. When I made this for the first time earlier this week, I used cumin seeds. Most of the seeds popped during the cooking process. However, a couple of them were mighty hardy and stayed whole. Between us, we counted about 6 rushes of cumin flavor from biting into a seed. That wouldn't have been a problem if we had used ground cumin.
