I've seen a few people mention that they're not sure how to search for a particular past link or post.

Well people, I'm here to tell ya. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Right under Post New Topic, or Post Reply, in the upper right hand corner, you'll see the word Search. Click on it, and type in a word or words that might take you to what you're looking for - i.e., potato soup. (Make sure you only search the Good Food bulletin board, because it will take FOREVER to search all bulletin boards.)

Up will pop a listing of links from past posts with the words "potato soup" in them. That makes it easier to find what you're looking for.

You can also search by a person's name and find all of the posts that that person either initiated, or at least appeared in.

Hope this helps!

Do you know how far back the saerch will go? I notice that the list of topics only goes back 100 days. Is it possible to search farther back than that? Sometimes I find an older recipe and I'm curious if there are any reviews of it from "back then".

I've seen it go back as far as July. Maybe the board didn't exist before then? I know they've changed the format of the board since then.

The present board became fully operational June 13, 2000, and anything which came before, unless copied by one of us, has gone to The Big Bulletin Board In The Sky...

Insofar as the search mechanism is concerned, I see CL has just recently made changes. At the time I wrote the Information for New Members, there was no way to simultaneously search all forums and since then they've upgraded-- which I personally find nifty. Granted, you have to wait longer to get information, but on the other hand, you no longer have to run separate checks on Great Foods, Popular Threads Archives, and the general archives. I like that. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif In the short time this board has been up and running, it's accumulated so much great information, I hate to think of people eagerly standing by waiting for replies when the answer to their questions may be a few clicks away. I can't believe how much highly productive "gabbing" we've done in seven months!

Also, if you do want to search several forums but not all of them, you can skip through forums as you search. Here's how it works: when you choose "All Open Forums and Archives" the computer displays a screen as it searches each forum telling you how many hits you have so far and what forum it is currently searching. On this screen there is also a choice in small letters at the bottom that reads something like "Click here if you do not wish to wait any longer." If you click on this phrase the computer will skip to the next forum, click again it will skip to the next one, etc. This allows you to skip through some forums and not others: very handy.

By the way, to test this just now I searched for "google" and got 19 hits?! Very curious! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
