Do you think it is ok to remove some of the skin so that the carrots, etc. I cook it with and the overall dish are less fatty? I'm thinking that since it kind of "steams" it that it would be ok and not dry out my breast meat. But I'm not sure. I wouldn't take it off the legs or DF would shoot me! :D
Also, do any of you also put potatoes in there too? My mom only puts carrots, celery and onions and I was thinking to round it out why not some potatoes?
Also, what is the difference between a fryer and a roaster?
TIA!

Age and weight (mostly age).
At first I thought it was a weird idea but then I thought about the sticky chicken recipe where you cook it upside down in the crockpot so...why not remove the skin from the breast and cook it upside down? I say go for it!
Potatoes...depends on how much liquid and they would be fairly mush by the time the chicken was done...JMHO! I love potatoes mushy or not...I'll go look...
When I do chicken in a crockpot, I go for the least amount of prep work possible, so I don't remove the skins. I don't find that it gets too greasy. Chicken can be kind of hard to cook in a crockpot; it can get overdone very quickly because of the low fat content. I'd watch it more closely if you do take the skins off.

Sneezles,
Thanks! I'm going to try this. I hadn't thought about breast down. And, you are right about mushy!! I know the carrots, celery, etc. are so soft when done. I may try dropping in some potatoes with a short time to go! I think they'd be great cooked with all of the other flavors!

I do find that the juices in the crockpot get too greasy for me when I leave the skin on. And it's always more difficult to skim out than the magazines and TV shows make it appear. Haven't tried it with skin off yet, but I'm tempted to. Are you supposed to cook the chix upside down so the breasts stay in the liquid the whole time??
Yes, I'd definitely say that potatoes would be fine. Any veggies, in fact. Zucchini, cremini mushrooms and red bell peppers would be great. I also add in spinach, but just a few minutes before serving. It wilts that way, but picks up the flavors of everything else.
