OK, so one week total for making parts (layers...one twice, syrup, buttercream-French buttercream, mind you, and arrival of fondant and pretty flowers) and 4 hours of assembling (them raspberries was very tedious :p ) I have managed to complete the cake. So all y'all need to say a prayer that it makes it to the party in one piece!!! And I'll take another picture once we slice into it so you can see the raspberry/French buttercream filling!

The bottom layer is 14" x 2 1/2" and the top heart-shaped layer is the Wilton double heart pan that's about 9x13x2 (with a 1/2-inch for the filling).

Thanks everyone for all your kind words! And the cake made it in one piece and was ooooh'd and ahhh'd properly upon arrival. It was also very tasty!
Here's the picture of it sliced into:

It was a wonderful cake and the fresh raspberries were so good! The cake was very light in texture and the French buttercream was not overly sweet and the fondant wasn't too bad either. Everyone decided to save the top layer for next year. I didn't want to ruin their enthusiasm and tell them it probably won't last that long but then I didn't want to bring it home either...don't need that sitting around here asking to be eaten! Besides which I still have the unadorned layer that wasn't tall enough to slice horizontally. BTW, those candy flowers were only $1.97 each!

Sneezles, FYI my wedding cake was covered in fondant, and when we defrosted the top layer a year later, the fondant was a little drier, but not awfully so, and the cake itself was moist as ever. So you just get to have another piece of your masterpiece next Valentine's Day! Great job!

Well, I had already frozen the layers earlier this week and I didn't wrap the layers last night but saw that it was just wrapped (loosely) with foil...maybe we won't wait a year! :p
