I bought one on a splurge lately and think they are great. I made a batch of oatmeal cookies from a Martha Stewart recipe she had on recently (big splurge). They come off much easier plus it does save the cookie sheet wear and tear. Not one cookie was burnt or "fried". MIne was a little over $17, but with good care will last awhile.

I bought my silpat 2 years ago from Williams Sonoma. I love it!! The cookies bake perfectly everytime. It is definitely a luxury item in the kitchen. Parchment paper works just as good. This of course will last indefinitely. If you want to splurge, I say go for it!!
