I'm shopping for a loft bed for each of my kids. I'm looking for a bunk bed type of thing with a bed on top and a dresser or desk underneath. I'd really prefer wood over metal. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to where to look?

Thanks!
Chrisi:)

Have you looked into IKEA? Even if there isn't one near you, I'm fairly certain you can order them through their catalog or even over the internet...

...I'll try to find a link :)

I know a bunch of these are metal :( and not exactly what you are looking for, but there are a few wooden ones here:

Loft / Bunk Beds (http://www.ikea-usa.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=12&categoryId=10141&langId=-1&parentCats=10103*10141&cattype=sub)

Those IKEA ones have always bothered me in that they don't look very sturdy. I found this one online:

I hear ya on the beds not looking sturdy... although, I just helped redo a little girls room using one of those beds ... one with a metal frame ... and it works really well. It's strong enough, and looks great too.

In the IKEA stores, you can also check out how the beds hold up - they usually have many of them on display.

When I was in college, I bought a great one (used) from a fellow student for $75. It was very sturdy and lasted me 4 years. Maybe you can post an add at a local school? I know there were always people looking to get rid of things in the spring.

Have you thought about posting a notice at a college dorm? Not sure if you are interested in something used....My daughter sold hers and it was in excellent condition.

Just a thought.

JC Penneys has a couple of fairly simple/cheap options.

You also could see if a local carpenter could build one. My friends did that for their daughters and it was not expensive and they got a very sturdy loft.

Thanks for all of the help everyone!:)
Checking out the colleges is a good idea, especially since we have 3 colleges in town.
I'm really leaning towards the one that Susan posted a picture of except in pine. I like how it makes such great use of space. My kids are so excited!
