Oh, my goodness, it has totally lived up to everyone's hype and more. Opening day is today and it is complete insanity but I am so excited to have a place like this only 5 minutes from my house! I think what impressed me even more than their selection is the employees, they are very nice and so excited about the opening. Most that I talked to that had been at other openings said they hadn't seen anything like this one!

I may have to go wonder again soon, this time without a cart.....:D
Can't wait to see what the other Virginians who were planning on going today have to say.

Robyn,
Thanks for the commentary. I have family living in your area ( Sterling)whom I'd love to tell about the new Wegmans.
Can you tell me the actual location ? Thanks.

Oh, that's easy for them. Tell them it's on Rte 28 at Waxpool, about a block from Carmax. Just follow the traffic...... (Oh, and police direction)

Robyn - is this the same store that Catherine posted about late last week?

So what did you buy? (Or should I say, what didn't you buy? :) )

Yep, its the same. I was actually pretty good, mainly did my weekly shopping but added a few neat things. I am making the Louisiana Goulash from the March CL but found a mushroom, roasted red pepper sausage that looked really good (and less fat) than the andouille it called for. I also got dried strawberry rhubarb and what looks like a good bottle of wine from Chile.

I couldn't resist picking up lunch while I was there so I got a European baguette (tomato, mozerella, lettuce and proscuitto with pesto mayo).

I am looking forward to trying the line caught king salmon (I used to live in Alaska and salmon has never been the same since), the wasabi encrusted tuna steaks, so many of the interesting looking produce items (thought that department was insane trying to get through but I did get a taste of something called Unique fruit which is a grapefruit, tangerine cross).

Oh, I could go on and on......

OMG I love Wegman's. There is one in the town where i grew up and i used to go there all the time... i loved their selection of organic and vegetarian fare (i was a veg for years)... do they have a brick bread oven at yours? Some do and some don't, makes SUCH good bread!

I am pretty sure it does have the brick oven but I plan to go back and really explore when there aren't thousands of people there all at once! I will watch for the brick oven bread if they do, thanks for the tip.

Congratulations! I discovered Wegmans when I moved to NJ. Awesome store! I take out of towners there and they go nuts.

Ah, Wegmans. I do so miss the Ithaca Wegmans....

Good times, good times. Especially the little train that runs around the candy section.

Sigh...
