Hi everyone,

Thought I'd start the March thread since it's a quiet moment right now.

Things here are going well. I've had Sammy eating cereal for over a week now, but we're still working on the spoon concept. :) Next month I am going to start making her food once she gets more comfortable eating her cereal w/the spoon.

She's definitely starting to get teeth in now and is just about gnawing her hand off every day. I've been trying to get her to use the teething ring instead, but her hand must taste better.

DH is away the first three weeks of this month (except for weekends) so I hope she continues to sleep well throughout the night. Our spring break is next week, but instead of having 6 school days off, the students only have 3 off because of all our snow days. Hopefully the weather will be fairly nice and I can get out and about with both girls.

So how is everyone else doing?

Sue- Glad to hear that Sam is doing well with solid foods. It took Logan a while to catch on to cereal but since then he certainly has been eating like a pro.

Karen- I am so sorry to hear that Evan has another ear infection. This must be so hard on your family. I hope that the ENT appointment goes well and that he is able to help Evan.

Angela- I am glad to hear abby is home and doing much better.

MandMs- Glad the pictures went well. As for the cereal, I agree with hat other have said- let DD get used to the taste and the whole idea of eating by feeding her her bottle first and then trying some cereal. I think the first two weeks Logan tried cereal he took a maximum of 2tbsps at a time. But we would let him play with the spoon, put some on his hands to put in his mouth by himself, just put a little on his lips for him to lick off, just to get used to all these new concepts.

Lara- Congrats on Natalie sleeping through the night. I think it took me a week before I stopped waking up at night. Enjoy the moms group. I have become very close with three of the women I met at my moms group and they are a wonderful support group.

We are doing well here. Logan has a cold, but so far(knock on wood) it is just causing him to wake up about 5:30 instead of 6 and not take the best naps. We will see if this progresses. But his new favorite thing is to crawl up and down the stairs, and while we are always right there with him I must say he has gotten very good.

My parents come into town tomorrow until Monday and I can't wait for them to see Logan. It is a my birthday on Thursday and so we ill celebrating through the weekend. Best of all my mom and dad have offered to give Logan a bottle Saturday morning so DH and I can sleep in- now that is a present I can appreciate.:D :D

Happy Tuesday

sue - it sounds like sammy is doing great with the cereal. as i recall it didnt take long from there to get the hang of other things as well. have fun making your own food - i am certianly enjoying it. for one, its much cheaper. fin loves mangos, and they are so easy to make yourself, just peel chop and give them a whirl in the blender. then you can freeze the puree in ice cube trays.

heather - happy birthday (a little early). its funny how our ideas of gifts change - boy a morning of sleeping in sound fantastic! sorry to hear logan has a cold. hopefully this warm weather we are having will help out in that respect.

angela - so glad to hear that abby is home now!

things are going well here. fin is getting bigger right before my very eyes. its incredible to watch him growing. i can hardly remember those early days now. these days it seems like he is becoming more and more independant. and i get such a kick out of watching him learn everything from how to open a box to climb the cases of soda my DH drinks to learning to get himself into a sitting position which is a new thing this week. he is still crawling all over the place - army style. and now he walks when we hold his hands. over the weekend he stood by himself for a few microseconds, but that hasnt been repeated. i am feeling a little less moody, and am just learning that my emotions are tied closely to the amount of sleep i get. so i am trying to get in bed shortly after fin at night. thank goodness he is a good sleeper!

how is everyone else doing?

Nicole- Yeap this warm weather we have been having has been a wonderful treat. We took Logan to the park on Sunday and put him in the toddler swing and he love every minute of it.
I am right there with you on the sleep issue. I find at least once a week I go to bed right after I put Logan down and it just makes everything better all around. I envy DH and the fact that he seems to be able to survive on 6 hours of sleep a night, I need at least 8 and every once in a while more.

Sue- I missed the part about making Sams food. We have made all of Logans food (although he gets some baby food when we travel). Like Fin, Logan loves mangos and they are so easy to prepare. In addition my doctor likes to refer to mangos as a "super" baby food, in that one two ounce serving is an excellent source of both Vitamins A and C, and so are winter squashs.

18 days to the official start of spring!

Karen - sorry to hear about the new round w/ the ear infection, let us know what the ENT says.

MandMs - it won't take long, soon Shay will be eating so fast you can't move the spoon fast enough.

This weekend was just wonderful, nice to get Ella outside for a walk to the park. Now it's back to being cold, windy and dreary out.

I've been looking for some information regarding babies and seafood. We eat alot of fish and shrimp and was wondering if Ella could eat it too. In one book I have there are recipes for cod and another fish (can't remember right now) for 6-9 months but I can't find anything on shrimp. I'm guessing it's not a good idea but would like to know for sure - does anyone know???

Sarah- I remember reading somewhere that fish is great for babies, but to avoid shellfish. I don't remember where I read that though.

Sarah- I am not sure about shellfish, but our doctor told us that we shouldn't introduce fish until 10 months.

Thanks for starting the thread, Sue! Sounds like Sammy is doing great! We too have been doing cereal for about a week and Shay seems to be getting used to the idea. I only do a tablespoon mixed with 3 tablespoons of formula, then I give her a bottle. Thanks for all the advice from you all too! I do the cereal before she gets too hungry, then we play for awhile. She'll take a bottle after about an hour. She opens her little mouth now (like a little birdie! :D), and there's much less dribbling out of her mouth than those first few tries. I may try mixing in a veggie this weekend. Can't believe my little girl is starting solids!

We had her 6 month check up and shots yesterday...even though she is about 6 1/2 months old now. She weighed in at 15 lbs, 13 oz and is 25 inches long. I was talking to a friend who had a 9 month old girl and she only weighs 16 lbs, 4 oz! Shay doesn't look chubby at all, but gees. This little girl is 3 months older than Shay, and a mere few oz heavier. I know every baby is different, but it makes me think Shay is a little porker! She certainly has taken to this new cereal thing! :D

Hope everyone is healthy and happy and well-rested. Shay's doc said the lastest thing "going around" for babies is rotavirus and strep. So far, we've managed to avoid these. I know some of you here have dealt with strep. Ugh. I can't wait for Spring.

Happy Hump Day!

Sarah-
I have heard the same thing as hrk. I would think things like fish sticks would be good after they turn 10 months. My sister's kids loved them.

Happy Mid-Week!

Ella has teeth :D ! Both of her bottom teeth poked through over the weekend, nothing much but sharp little points but it's a start. She's been a little tropper through it all though, just a little cranky in the evening. However, she hates her bottle again, I think it's the teething but aren't they suppose to reject solid food more often when they're teething?!? She normally has 3 6oz bottle throughout the day but yesterday she only drank about 1-2oz each time. I just keep adding some of the formula to oatmeal and she eats it right up, that way I know she's getting some iron, etc. She eats solids just fine though! Oh well, I'm not going to worry too much, she's growing just fine and doesn't seem to be hungary.

MandMs - Ella will be 7 months of the 10th and weighs 13lbs and 8oz, just a little bug! I was w/ a friend last night whose baby is 1 wk older than Ella and her DD is 22lbs and wearing 18month clothes!!!

Hope all is well with everyone!

MandMs - we are doing pretty much the exact same thing that you are w/the cereal. It's getting a little less messy. :) She just doesn't seem full even w/formula and cereal, so this weekend I am starting her on fruits or veggies. Haven't decided what to use as the initial "solid" food choice. She'll be 5 months old next week. Hard to believe!!

Heather, hope Logan is getting over his cold. How fun that he is crawling the stairs! Have fun with your parents!!

Sue and Lisa, too fun about solid foods. Hopefully they will continue to get the hang of it. Let us know how it goes.

Sarah, you said Ella was 7 months and weighs 13 lb, 8 oz. I took Natalie to the dr. last Friday and that's exactly what she weighs! :o Natalie will be 3 months old tomorrow! Congrats on the teeth - glad that she's done well with it.

Well, the sleeping through the night lasted exactly one night  Natalie has been up for her usual 3:00 am feeding ever since then. Its OK - I don't really mind, I was just looking forward to the prospect of sleeping through for the first time in about 9-10 months. Oh well.

I had the first meeting with the Mom's group on Monday. I think that this will be a nice group of people. Our first icebreaker was that we had to tell our labor stories. I had to tell about my 2 1/2 hour labor right after someone who had 30+ hours of labor after being induced and ended up having a c-section because after all that time she was still only 1 cm dilated.

I am coming to the end of my maternity leave and am majorly bummed about it. I just am in tears when I think about having to leave my little girl. I know it is only 2 days a week, and I am so fortunate to be able to work part time, but it is still hard to think about. I go back to work March 17.

Had to take Natalie to the dr. on Friday. She had a little bit of diaper rash on her bottom. I didn't think too much of it because we moved her from size 1 diapers to size 2, and when we moved her from newborn to size 1's, she got a little rash that went away after a couple of days. I figured this was just the same thing. Well, when I was changing her Friday afternoon, the wipe I was using came away streaked with a little blood. That freaked me out. Of course it was 4:00 pm on Friday afternoon, but they were able to get her in to be seen. She has some antibacterial ointment that we're using on her, and it looks a lot better.

Hi everyone

I guess it is time to evolve from the PG thread to the New Moms thread. Ryan Patrick was born two weeks ago yesterday at 37 weeks 4 days. His first week was one of trips to the hospital or Dr's office everyday for bilirubin checks and of being attached to a biliblanket. The week culminated with a readmission to the hospital for an overnight on the Big Daddy bililight. He responded well in the hospital, so we were there only about 24 hours.

Yesterday was his 2 week check up and our ped said he looks great. He passed his birthweight of 6lb 12 oz and is up to 7lb 1 oz. I was pleased with that. Hopefully he will fatten up just as quickly as his older brother did. (Justin, my 5 year old, doubled his birthweight by 2 months--going from 6'7'' to over 12 lbs)

Looking forward to getting to know you all and your babies!!

Samantha, Welcome and congrats on your new little one! Sounds like Ryan is doing just beautifully!

I'm Lisa and have a darling 6 month old DD, Shay. She was close to Ryan's birth weight at 6 lbs, 2.5 oz...though she was late and I was induced at 40 wks, 5 days. We just started cereal and she's rolling all over the place. So much fun!

This place is awesome and all the Mom's are so wonderful. Check in often and keep us posted on Baby Ryan.

Congrats and welcome!

Quiet around here today...

Quick question regarding cereal (I know, not again!). Shay's doc said that after reaching 6 months of age that the formula alone does not have enough iron for those little growing bodies. So I started the cereal right at 6 months, even though she's perfectly content with just formula (and only taking maybe 24-26 oz total all day). Her once a day evening cereal feedings have been going okay. She wasn't into it at all last night and I barely got half of the serving in her. Should I start a morning feeding in addition to this? Not because she's unsatisfied with the formula, but because of the iron issue. Some days it just feels like I don't know what the heck I'm doin'!

I also bought a jar of sweet pototoes and a jar of carrots. NOt sure if I should just stick to the plain cereal until she's more comfy with it, or dive right into the orange mess.

Hope everyone's having a happy Friday. :)

hi everyone!
welcome samantha and ryan!
sarah congrats on the teeth! abby got hers in the first wk of feb and now the top two are trying to come through.
abby seems completely recovered from the rsv however dh and i are still with cold symptoms:rolleyes:
mandms i would not worry too much about the iron issue. i think esp in the beginning just getting her used to eating is the goal. i just had abby checked and she is hardly eating much and her blood count was fine.
i would recommend looking at a baby book regarding solids and how and when to introduce like dr sears etc also the gerber website has some info.
carrots can be constipating - i would stick with sweet potato or squash or pears.. only introduce one new food every several days to see if there is any reaction. i gave abby sweet potatoes and she got a rash around the bottom area for instance.
good luck!

Welcome, Samantha!

MandMs, I don't think you need to add a morning feeding just yet. If she doesn't want all of it some times, I wouldn't stress about it right now. She is just getting the hang of the whole solids thing and will take her a bit of time to get used to it. I'm trying to remember how long we waited to try fruits and veggies. Once she gets used to the cereal, give something else a try. But don't forget to wait 4 to 7 days between introducing new foods. Alex's favorite food is sweet potatoes. Then again, I don't know if anyone wants to listen to my food advice because Alex has not really been eating any solids now for about a month. Yes, even though he's 10.5 months old. I'm not sure what's wrong, but he really won't eat.

Also, we're heading out to the doctors. He had a fever last weekend, we took him in and they said it was his ears again. Put him back on antibiotics. He had a really high fever again yesterday. I took him in and they said his ears didn't look that bad. The doctor wanted to send us to the hospital. :( :( Instead, she switched his antibiotic and we're supposed to go back in this afternoon. He is clearly miserable and won't even nurse today. I did finally get him to take a bottle of pumped milk. He's only had 6 ounces since 1 am. Add that to the 102 degree fever, and I'm getting worried. We'll see what the doc has to say.

Welcome Ryan & Samantha! And congrats to Justin, the new big brother, I'm sure he'll teach Ryan a thing or two!

Susan - sorry to hear about Alex, 102! Poor thing :(

Angela - doesn't seem once one of you gets well someone elses comes down with something. Sending get well soon wishes.

MandM - I agree w/ susan that you might not need to add an a.m. feeding just yet, she's still getting use to it. This is what we did, maybe this will help. However, Ella had some weight issues when we started cereal so we did feed it 2/day. In the a.m. I would nurse her and 1 1/2 later feed some cereal. We did the same in the evening, she's have cereal around our dinner time (5:30) and nurse around 7-7:30 before bed. Regarding foods, yes wait a few days for allergic reactions. I also heard that carrots can be a problem but we tried them and she was ok, now I mix them in with sweet potatoes. Check out Ruth Yaron's Super Baby Food book at your library; it's a good resource.

We had a quiet weekend - finally! Ella bottom teeth breaking through are really bothering her. We've been giving her teething tablets and then some tylenol at night if she needs it. We're also adjusting her sleeping schedule in the morning to let her sleep a little more, so far so good.

Happy monday to you all!

Good Monday morning everyone.

Welcome Samantha, we look forward to another experienced "new"mom joining us.

Susan- I am so sorry to hear about Alex being sick again. It sounds like you are Karen are in the same boat. Speaking of which, Karen how did it go with the ENT?

Sarah- Sorry to hear teething is going so rough.

Well this weekend was crazy and Logan did just great with it all. My parents stayed with him all day Thursday and they had a blast. This was the first time my parents got to see him crawl and I think Logan ran them ragged. He just won't stay put. But he is trying to stand now. It is soo fun to watch, he pulls up, then he lets go with one hand steadys himself then he lets go with the other hand and falls a second or two later. So now we can't ever seem to take our eyes off him. My mom says by the time she is back in April she thinks he will be walking.

He also cut his fifth tooth on Saturday, which explains the runny nose and cough lately. It didn't seem to cause him too much discomfort, so we are lucky.

Logan is moving up to the next room in his daycare after I spoke with his pediatrician about it and he thought it would be great stimulation for Logan as long as they accomodate him if he wants to sleep more than once a day which the daycare director said they would gladly do, so all is good on that front and makes things more comfortable again at daycare.

Hope everyone is well and that the babies are sleeping well and staying happy:D

sarah how are you adjusting ella's wakeup time? i would love to know!
i am really going to freak if my baby won't take the darn bottle at daycare. it's only 3 days a week though so i guess it won't kill her not to eat.

It's been so quiet here lately. Hope everyone's doing okay. (maybe you're all just catching up on your sleep :D )

We have our first tooth! :D Actually my Mom found it last night. Just wee little edge poking through. I would never have known. She's been happy, smiley, drooly. No signs of "teething" at all! Yay! Hopefully she'll cut all her teeth this way. Though I highly doubt it.

We've been doing the cereal thing for about 2 wks now. She does okay for the most part. Though some nights she wants nothing to do with it. I have this cute little jar of Gerber sweet potatoes waiting on the counter for when I decide to plunge into the orange mess. Just unsure when to do that.

Not much else to report. Shay's rolling all over the place and even trying to scoot when placed on her tummy. Looks like a little fish all wiggling around.

So, what's up with all the babies? How's everyone? Any new teeth out there? :)

Busy week...TGIF almost:)

Lisa - Shay's 1st tooth, how exciting! I didn't find Ella's either, it was a DH's friend that pointed it out to us. She cut both of her bottom ones two weeks ago. She'll probably love sweet potatoes, one of Ella's favorites!

Angela - I'm adjusting well to letting Ella sleep in from 5am to 6:30. However this means I have to leave even earlier to get to the gym (4:55am!!!) so I can nurse her before leaving for work. We've actually adjusted her entire sleep & eating schedule (well actually she adjusted it and we finally figured it out) and we're all doing well.

Heather - glad to hear your parents got some good bounding time in!

Hi to everyone else :D

Ella is going to DH's dad & step mothers overnight tomorrow. This isn't her 1st sleep over somewhere but she's a little grumpy due to the 2 teeth tearing through her gums! I just hope she's good for them.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sarah - hope Ella has a good night at her overnight stay!

Things here are going well. DD1 has spring break (albeit an abbreviated version of it due to snow days) so she was off yesterday through tomorrow.

I started giving Sam solids this week and she did great. She had applesauce so far and ate pretty well. I will try something else tomorrow, since it's been 4 days and she's shown no signs of allergies, etc.

The teeth are definitely coming in, and she's been fussy, drooling and just about gnawing her fist off every day.

Take care everyone, and have a great weekend!

Happy Friday everyone.
Well we are on week two of our crazy March. My parents left Monday and wednesday a friend from grad school arrived until Sunday. Then next Thursday we leave for San Antonio until the following Monday. Boy do I need a free weekend right now.

Logan is really working on Standing and taking steps which means we have to watch him like a hawk, although he is getting better with falling on his butt, but not tipping over. He reminds me of the Cottonelle commercial, with the dog putting the toilet paper under the baby learning to walk.:D

I posted this on the toddlers mom board but I know there are seasoned moms here as well so I will ask here as well:
Dh and I are debating about whether Logan should be wearing shoes by now. I have heard some say not until they are walking others say it helps them walk. What did you all do and did you use hard or soft soles for their first shoes?

Lisa- Congrats on Shay's first tooth, very exciting.

Sue- Glad to hear Sam is enjoying the solids. I bet DD is bummed about her shortened spring break

Angelamaria- Has daycare started yet or is it next week? How is it going with the bottle?

Sarah- good luck with Ella's overnight. Any special reason for it?

Lara- How about you, how are things going with daycare and the bottle?

Anita- Back yet from Disney? How was the trip, I bet it was wonderful.

Karen- How did Evans party go?

Just a quick post to give you all an update..... work has been crazy and the internet connection at home has been sloooooooooow for some reason.

Evan's ENT appt went well. His latest ear infection was cleared up but still had fluid in each ear. He didn't do too well on the hearing test (temporary hearing loss due to the fluid that just won't drain). He also had lots of pressure in his ears as indicated on the tympanograph (sp?). So, long story short, we're getting tubes on Tuesday. Hoping everything goes well and that he feels more comfortable after they are in.

The big party is on the 20th. I've got 8 babies coming (plus moms). I can't believe my baby is going to be 1 on Wednesday!

Sorry about the post being all about us. I'm not sure how often I'll post on this thread anymore, I should think about going over to the Toddler thread, but they move so fast over there, its hard to keep up!

Sarah428
03-12-2004, 08:08 AM
Karen - hope the tubes make all the troubles go away :) . He's one on Wed?!? OMG, where did the time go? Well if you move over the toddler thread you'll be missed but I guess we'll all be moving over there sooner or later.

Heather - doesn't seem like weekends fill so fast? I was just writing my vacation time for the summer in on the work calendar and there aren't many open ones left! Can't help you w/ the shoes, maybe talk to someone at Stride Right (do you have those around you?). Expect they may just try to sell you shoes when you may not really need them.

Sue - good luck w/ the second round of foods.

Ella's overnight trip was supposed to be last weekend but she was so fussy w/ those 2 new teeth I called DH's step-mom and asked to schedule for today. She's much better and I finally got her schedule down. We're not doing much tonight, just nice quiet dinner. Tomorrow we've already decided we're sleeping in and then going out for breakfast. DH is leaving for Reno on Sat, will be gone until late Wed night. Not really looking forward to that :( . I took Tues & Wed off of work so Ella and I could have to girl time!

I'll check in on Monday! Happy weekend!

I forgot...last night DH made White Velvet Soup from CL Aug 2003. He omitted the salt and I decided to let Ella try it and she loved it! I'm at work so I thought I'd just copy it from the CL website but I can't find it. I'll try to remember to post it Monday (might need a reminder ;) ). It has celery root/celeriac in it but we used parsnips instead. I can't believe how much of it she ate, she's having it again for lunch today!

hi everyone! i expect this thread will slow down on the weekend.
well the daycare workers found a bottle abby will take (playtex with the bags and a short stubby latex:eek: nipple! are my nipples like this?) so that is resolved. however friday when i dropped her off the lady immediately strapped her into a bouncy seat because her hands were full- the bouncy seat basically flattened almost to the ground! i hated leaving her all strapped in like that. and then when i came to get her she was in an exersaucer and crying with a pacifier. so i think i will have to find some other situation with a better ratio than 1 daycare worker to every 6 babies. abby is used to being held or played with unless she is napping.:( i don't like her being strapped in some device so they don't have to hold her etc.
other than that:rolleyes: my first days back at work were great. i don't know if it is getting to dress up a little or the return of my period (oh yeah wouldn't you know the day abby was discharged from the hospital ol' Aunt Flo made her first appearance since nov 92!)but i am feeling a lot less freaked out and stressed. a little more like my old self BC (before child).
sarah i can't believe how much neat stuff ella eats! how old is she again? i think we are moving really slowly on the different solids. secondary to abbys constipation thing we are still giving her prune juice with rice cereal every night! she must be sick of it! what are you going to do about nursing with ella's overnight? and how did you get her to sleep later in the am?

karen i will be thinking of you this week with evan's surgery. i know it is routine but still hard to have to put your baby through it. i sure hope it clears up his ear infections! good luck with the party!

heather i have put leather soft soled shoes by hanna anderson on abby to keep her feet warm. i have also put her in tennis shoes from target for the same reason. today i put on her sneakers and she practiced standing in them. if he is starting to walk i would think it would be good to wear something to protect his feet in case he steps on something sharp but i don't think it needs to be hardsoled. i really love the soft soled leather shoes!

mandms sounds like shay is doing great with the cereal! congrats on the teeth!

susan how is alex doing?

sarah you remain an inspiration to me with going to the gym that early. the most exercise i have worked up to is a 90 minute yoga class once a week.

we get abby's easter portrait done on monday at jcpenneys. they have a really cute easter setup. i think i will join the portrait club.(now that i got my first pics done i don't want to stop!)

Angela- I don't know much about day care, but my SIL has been in day care forever, and it seems to me that 6 to 1 is a poor ratio. The day care SIL worked at had a maximum 4 to 1 ratio, at least for the baby room. I would definitely find a place with a better ratio.

Sarah428

Good monday morning all!

Angela - I agree, 6 to 1 sounds too high. I'm glad to hear you found a bottle that Abby will take. So how is work going for you? Have you adjusted to the new schedule? I wish I had 90 minutes to work out :)! If I miss my morning workout, watch out, it's not a pretty sight for the rest of the day. I've been really happy w/ JCP for Ella's pics (I've been trying to post on here but it never works, can anyone help me). I debated doing easter ones and now I wish we had, oh well. Ella turned 7 months on the 10th, and she loves "real food". Don't worry, you have plenty of time to introduce Abby to new things once her "condition" get better.

Ella's trip overnight to DH's parents went well. They said she was perfect and couldn't believe how little she cried (only when their big, hairy german shepard walked through the room). They had her up until almost midnight playing with her though  . I spent most of Saturday night and yesterday trying to get her back on track. DH left for Reno Sunday a.m., I hate being home alone at night. Good thing I have my trusted lab Lily to protect me :) !

Good Monday Morning!!

Hope everyone is well. My poor little Ryan is having a tough time the last day or two. He is terribly gassy and I feel so bad for him. I also am worried because Justin, our DS#1, had colic and I do not want to relive that experience.

Angela, I see that you live in Charleston also. It does stink that the regulated ratios for child care in this state are 6 to 1. I don't know if you have heard of it but I just found out that Little Learner's Lodge in Mt. Pleasant has a 3 to 1 ratio.

I am STRESSED out regarding day care myself!!! I had planned on having someone come into the home in a nanny position to care for Ryan all day and Justin after school. We ran an ad this week and I have been setting up interviews and now I am Freaking out because I just don't think I can trust someone alone with my babies in my home. DS#1 is currently in preschool. He goes all day because I work and the place he attends take infants(6 to 1 ratio) but they won't have an openning until June or July. I have to go back to work in May.

Nothing really upsets me more than worrying about the care of my children!! My stomach is in knots.

Just had to vent. Sorry

Hello everyone. A horrible Monday here for me! For one...it's snowing! HARD! What was just supposed to be a "dusting" is now 3-5 inches. I'm so tired of this!

And add me to the list of daycare issues! I went to drop her off this morning (I take her to someone's home....Shay was the only baby and she also has 4 toddlers) and I hear this screaming baby! It was his first day there (9 months) and he was just hysterical. So now there are 2 babies and 4 toddlers. I set Shay on the table (astill in her carseat) and there was no way she was getting picked up or fed anytime soon. I was late, but just didn't want to leave her there strapped in her carseat still in her coat. Ugh! I had this pit in my stomach all the way to work. I did call (I'm such a dork) to check on her and she was fed right after I left and I didn't hear any crying in the backround. She's been in the business for 20 yrs and I know things will settle down once this new little boy gets used to her. It makes me sad that Shay isn't the only 'baby' anymore.
:(

I pick up portraits too this Thurs from JCP! They did a great job.

Shay will be 7 months this Fri and I feel too that I'm lagging in the solid food dept. We're only doing cereal (and this weekend I mixed in some pears....you would have thought I was giving her straight lemon juice! She made this hilarious pucker-face!). I only give her one serving a day (in the evening). Her appetite seems wacky lately too. Not taking much formula and just so-so with the cereal. Maybe it's her new little tooth. :(

Hang in there to anyone having a crappy Monday. :(

Hi Everyone!

Wow, so much is going on! Hard for me to catch up!!!! We are back from Disney and had a blast. Asha had so much fun. She was so excited that she did not nap at all. Was awake all day long :)! So we really enjoyed Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Downtown Disney, and hanging at the hotel pool. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge which was just great. Such a beautiful hotel. It was hard for me to come back...I really enjoyed seeing the excitement of Disney thru DD's eyes. It was really amazing. I cannot wait to go back.

We are back and Asha is just growing like crazy. We had her 9 month appt and she weighs 16 lbs and is 27 inches tall. She has started to stand alone and cruise along furniture. I think walking is not far behind. We have started yogurt and she had grilled cheese today which she really liked. I have started planning her first bday and am so excited. We are doing an Under the Sea theme. I am trying to get the invites out today (we are having it one month early). Hmmm, what else? DH is almost done MBA school. I'm excited about graduation, but bummed that we don't know where we will be after he is finished. We would like to stay here, but who knows?

Sounds like everyone is doing well, with the exception of a few illnesses and some bad days. I hope the week brings more good days and all the sick babies are well soon!

Samantha, just wanted to mention a book..."The Happiest Baby on The Block" by Dr. Karp. It really is great for those fussy first weeks.

Sorry to hear about all the daycare issues. I hope they get resolved. The food issues are ones we have all the time. I have just decided to have fun with it and not worry so much.

Karen, I hope Evan is better soon. I really hope that the tubes help. I cannot believe he will be one. Happy Birthday to him and congratulations to you. It really is a bittersweet time...I hope you have some time to reflect on the past year.

Yaaayy Logan...sounds like things are gonna get moving for you Heather!

Yaayy Shay, on the first tooth. Isn't it so fun!

I know I missed some of you! So sorry but I gotta run. Will try and catch up in the next few days!

Anita- glad to hear the Disney trip went well! Sounds like you guys had a blast.

Things here are going well. Both girls are in bed, so I am headed there soon. I figure I'll get sleep now while I can, since Sam will probably be up during the night. She is cutting two teeth at the moment. She's doing pretty well on the food front - loves applesauce and sweet potatoes, but the mangoes did not agree with her at all.

Have a good night everyone!

Hello everyone,

I have not had a lot of time to check in here recently. THings have been crazy at home.

Well, tomorrow is my first day back to work. I am really nervous about this. I took Natalie down to DH's aunt's house on Friday and she tried giving her a bottle. Natalie did mostly take it, but still not without some fussing. At least it wasn't the hour of screaming that we've gotten, but it still was a good 15 minutes.

Some other good news on my job front. I have been trying to get on with a company that does Human Resources consulting. They seem to be fairly exclusive as to who they hire, etc (not that others arent, but you know what I mean). Anyway, doing consulting part time would allow me to do 100% or nearly 100% of my work from home and Natalie not have to go to daycare. Well, I got an interview with them! YAY! Doing consulting like this is what I've always wanted to do, I've just needed to spend the last 8 years working at "real jobs" to get some experience.

I'll try and check in tomorrow and let everyone know how my first day went. I am just working 4 hours tomorrow and depending on how that goes, maybe 5-6 hours on Thursday. My normal schedule will be to work on Weds and Thurs. That will give Natalie 5 days in a row at home and only 2 in a row away.

We had the 2nd meeting of my Mom's group yesterday. Two of the people from last time are not going to come back. One sold her house in the interim between meetings and is going to be moving to Chicago, the other's son naps during the time of our meeting and doesn't sleep the rest of the day. Too hard for her to disrupt that. I can't say I blame her. There were 2 new people there, though, so the size of the group is the same. Natalie is the oldest baby now, the next one is 5 weeks younger than her, I think.

Well, I need to get up early tomorrow, so I am going to bed. Talk to you later!

Just want to show off a little - here's a picture I took of her yesterday.

Lara-
Best of luck with returning to work today. I was really stressed when I went back to work, but I did find that Logan thrived at daycare, and I enjoyed my work again and the interaction with my colleagues. Since Logan has been in daycare I have seen them bring in many new babies, and I have to say that most of them take about a week to adjust, but after that they really seem to enjoy themselves. And there was one baby who was exclusively BF and refused the bottle for the first week, so the daycare would give him his milk with a small cup while continuing to try the bottle, and then after about a week he just started taking the bottle, no fuss. I am sure Natalie will do great. She is adorable in her picture

Anita- I am so glad to hear that you guys had fun at Disney World and that Asha is thriving. So all the sleep issues have worked themselves out?

Karen- Happy 1 year Birthday to Evan. Hope the party goes well.

Sue I am glad the feeding is going well. My ped told me that while most babies do fine with mangoes they still are technically a citrus fruit so if they cause problems to wait and reintroduce them around a year.

MandMs- when Logan started daycare I called 3x a day for the first week. You are not a dork to check on your child, your a wonderful mother. As for food I wouldn't worry about lagging behind. I don't think there is any such thing. As long as Shay seems satisfied and her behavior is changing I wouldn't worry about it.

Sam- I am sorry to hear Ryan is having a tough time. Have you tried the mylicon (sp?)drops to relieve gas? Logan had a really hard time burping and as such would get very gassy. DH would sit on a big exercise ball and bounce him on his lap to help him. As for the nanny situation, is there someone else you know with a nanny already? Would they be willing to nanny share until daycare opens up?

Sarah- I am glad to hear Ella's overnight went well. Keeping her up til midnight though:eek: That is something my MIL would do.

Angela- Boy a 6-1 ratio I can't even imagine. Here in maryland it is 3-1 and I know sometimes the daycare workers go nuts with that ratio. But I am glad to hear that the bottle situation worked itself out and that you are enjoying being back to work.

Well things here are going well. I know a while back there was talk about sleep schedules and waking up early, well we were dealing with that last week. Every morning Logan was up at 5 and very cranky when he woke up. So starting Thursday we tried rolling his bedtime back a 1/2 hour and by Monday it seemed to have helped greatly (knock on wood) So fer the past few days Logan has gone to bed at 8:30 and sleeps until I wake him at 6:15 and takes two great naps. The extra half hour we gained we let him run around the house and it really seems to help wear him out as well.
We are headed to San Antonio on Friday for a vacation for Logan and me, work for DH, so I am really looking forward to some warmer weather for a few days.

Happy St. Patricks day

Hope you all had a wonderful St. Pat's Day. I had Tues & Wed off, Ella and I had a great couple days hanging out and seeing friends

Although her overnight visit last weekend went well having her up until midnight has been horrible on her schedule. Last night she cried from 11-12:30, I changed her diaper and checked on her and finally at 12:30 I rocked her back to sleep  , not sure if that was a good idea or not!

Anita - glad to hear that your trip went well. 1st Birthday & graduation, you have a lot of celebrating coming up.

Samantha - how are the nanny interviews going? Is Ryan feeling better?

Lara - Natalie is so cute, I wish Ella had more hair! How was your 1st day back to work? When is your interview? Good luck, sounds like a great opportunity.

Heather - Glad the new sleep schedule seems to be working. Enjoy the sun & warm weather, I don't think spring will ever arrive here (mid to high 30's today)

Well, time for me to show my cutie off!

hi all.
samantha how funny that you live here too - i didn't notice that before! i also live in mt p in the brickyard - pm me if you want to meet!
there is another cl board member due this summer who lives here too.
i have met her IRL- maybe once her baby comes we can do a mommy and me cooking club!
i think i found a nanny - but the expense is so much! right now daycare here because of the high ratio is 130 a week. so pretty cheap.
of course i don't like the daycare.
most nannies want around 10 an hour. i need one for around 32 hrs a week which would be about 288 a week - it will be around 3 times as much as daycare. daycare is around 6500 a year and a nanny would be around 15000-18000 a year. i also have 18000 a year in student loan payments which is one of the main reasons i am going back to work. so basically my student loans and a nanny would be all my takehome pay and maybe even more.
what do you all think?
this lady is flexible on times i need her, she lives 5 min from me which is great considering the horrible traffic here.
samantha i have heard a lot of people like palmetto nannies for finding a nanny too.
sarah ugh hate those messed up sleep times! hopefully ella will get back to her regular time soon.how is the feeding going?
lara natalie is so cute!i will cross my fingers that that other job comes thru for you- it sounds perfect!
anita welcome back - we are thinking of going there next year, esp the animal lodge place.
mandms how is shay doing at the babysitters? sorry to hear it's more crowded now. hope your week got better!
gotta go abbys crying.

Hey all! How are all the little ones?

Lara, Natalie is just a beauty! Cuteness!

Turns out we have 2 teeth! Just barely...both bottom ones. We had a rather cranky night (which we almost never have). Bathtime was a nightmare. My guess was the teeth. I discovered she hates pears....I think it's a texture thing. We've done sweet potatoes for 2 nights now and she's digging them! Makes for rather messy bibs though. It's still a struggle getting her to do the "open mouth/spoon coming" thing. I have to kind of pry her little lips open. I gave her an empty sippy cup to play with and the chucked it across the room. :D

I need to start making my own babyfood. It's so expensive and it seems with her eating so little that I end up tossing what's left in the jars. Is the "use within 2-3 days after opening" pretty standard...or can I maybe stretch that a bit? I know this stuff doesn't have preservatives, so maybe that's why. This is getting so expensive. I have been getting the organic stuff (Earth's Best), and it is kind of pricey compared to the other stuff.

Picking up her 6 month pics tonight! I'd love to post some, but with my situation, I'd hate for my ex to see them. Not that he/'s be lurking around the CLBB...but you just never know. :(

My twins are now 8 months old.

Nic has learned a new sound...sortof like a cough/wretching sound. It is unsettling to me, but he thinks it's great.

Meanwhile, Max continues to be fascinated with all things "hand" his hand, my hand, the checkout ladies' hand. And whatever he can grab gets pulled into the mouth...

Sadly, tomorrow is another bout of shots (they were premature)... it is always worse for me, than them... I can't stand them looking at me when it happens.... breaks my heart.

Hi guys
Wanted to take a quick moment to post!
Anita,
Thanks for the Happiest Baby... suggestion. I went out and got it immediately and even though most of the things were in our repetoir, we have put them all together the way they suggest during fussy times, and the last few days have been much better.

Angela,
Hey there, I will send you a PM. You are really close to me. I live in Belle Hall. I will have to call Palmetto Nannies and check them out. I liked one woman that I have interviewed.( nice woman, good values, trustworthy etc., BUT she has no baby experience....she was/is a teacher) My ad in the paper runs again this weekend. I really doubt, however, that I will go with someone that I find that way.

Sue,
Samantha is so cute! She looks happy to me.

By the way, I am sure that it was a fluke, but Ryan slept 5 and 1/2 hours last night:) ! It was awesome, but I feel even more tired today that usual.

Have a great day!!

Hi there -

Evan's surgery on Tuesday went really well. The tubes are in. The actual procedure was super quick. The worst part was no nursing after midnight! Of course, he had a cold and ear infection at the time too, so he was miserable. We were pretty much up at 1:55am for the day! I could not get him back to sleep. Luckily, we were the second ones on the list for surgery and were in the car home by 9am. Poor Evan was so thirsty and hungry when he woke up from the anesthesia. He nursed on one side (I had rock boob too from going 12 hours without nursing - lol) plus drained a sippy cup full of water. He seems to be doing so much better these last few days. The ENT said he suctioned a ton of thick mucusy gunk out of his ears, so it was no wonder he kept getting ear infections - the stuff could never drain.

And we had his big party yesterday. SO MUCH FUN! 8 babies. All of them were happy and played great together. 2 hours was the perfect length of time.

Heather - I use the robeez shoes on Evan. www.robeez.com

gotta run - the monster doesn't want to go to sleep tonight. aargh. plus DH is in Europe for a week for work - so I'm on my own this week with DS.

Karen - glad that the surgery went well, hopefully things will get back to "normal" for you soon. And what a fun birthday :)

Lisa - how did the pics turn out? I spent 2 hours making food last night but it's so worth it!

Hi to all the other moms and little ones out there.

Not much new to report here. We had birthday parties on both Sat & Sun (wow, lots of cake & ice cream), so not much time at home. Today was our first water babies class and Ella loved it. It was a little too cold in there for me though!

Hey all! Finally a sort of decent Monday here. The temps are kind of low (40's), but atleast the Sun is shining and there are 70 degree days on the horizon. Finally! My poor daffodils seem to be struggling. And I think the tulips want to go "back home".

Sarah - the pics turned out great! I was so pleased with JCP. I ended up with tons! (new Mom suckered in) :D

Escher - Oh! You have twins! I think that is the most amazing blessing. Shay does the cough/wretch thing too. And she usually produces her new found noise in some store so people look at me like she's choking. Plus, she totally amuzes herself with the new "screaming" thing. High pitched. Reminds me of when a smoke detector goes off while broiling something. Funny about the "hands" thing. With Shay, it's my Mom's DBF's facial hair. :D She goes right for the mustache. Shay's just 7 months now. I'd love to hear more about what your guys are doing. Shay's right behind them!

Let's see...what else. Still 2 teeth. Still smiley and drooly. We've graduated from sweet potatoes to carrots, which she seems to love. I bought her some Oatmeal, but haven't tried it. Have practially a full box of rice cereal, but to me it tastes like crap. Did anyone experience problems switching the cereals? Like constipation or anything?

I also bought DD her first ball cap. Pink. Talk about cute! :D

Happy Monday!

Hi Everyone,

I said that I'd come back and post about my first day back to work, and then I never did. Things around here have been really busy plus the weather has been great and I've been trying to get outside when I can.

Well, the first day back went OK. I had really built it up in my head that it was going to be horrible, etc, but it was OK. The hardest part was dropping Natalie off at daycare. I only worked 9-1 on Wednesday and worked 9-3 on Thursday. Then I was off Friday.

The bad thing is that Natalie did not eat at all the whole time she was there. I don't know if she was just looking around at new surroundings and new people or what. She didn't fuss, they said, but she just chewed on teh bottle and was not interested in it. I ended up throwing out about 15 oz of breastmilk over the two days. :(

Thursday she took 2 good naps while she was there, so I was a little less concerned about her not eating much that day - she was never fussy or anything but when I got there to nurse her, she was really hungry and ate at 3:00 and again at 5:30 and again at around 8:30 and 11. I wonder if she's just going to switch her feeding schedule around to be able to nurse.

Work itself was a little overwhelming. Imagine 3+ months of email, mail, etc. I got a lot of stuff sorted out on Wednesday and was able to start doing some actual work on Thursday, so that's good. I am just going to have to be super-organized to be able to make this 2 day a week thing work. I had been working 4 days a week before Natalie was born, but I felt like I had a ton of down time and talked to my boss about how I'd rather be home with her than at work with nothing to do.

I had my interview with the HR consulting company yesterday and it went really well. It sounds like they are going to put me on their "roster" of consultants to do work as it becomes available. I would really like this to work out, and I was pretty upfront with my time availability over the next couple of months and just in general.

We went to JC Penney's to get Natalie's 3 month pictures taken. I was kind of mad because our appointment was at 1:40, and I had gotten her to nap so that she was well-rested and ready to go at 1:40. Well, they were running 1/2 hour late, and it was close to 2:15 before they even started with us. She only lasted 5-10 minutes before she got really fussy. We did get some good shots, though and were able to pick out a pose that we liked. Oh well, maybe next time.

Sorry this is all about me...I'll try to get back later and respond to everyone else.

Lara - I had a similar problem at our 3month appt at JCP. They were running 2 hrs behind and we never got the pics done because she wa so cranky by that point. I wrote a nice letter to them stating my dissatisfaction w/ how they handled the scheduling and they ended up mailing us a certificate for 6 free sheets of pics. Her 6 month pics ended up costing us $7.42! Just a thought. I use to work in retail and I always wanted my customers to be happy.

Ella is going into the Dr tomorrow to have her rash looked at. She's always had somewhat dry skin and rash patches which I thought was eczema (sp?) since I have it. Lately it's been getting much worse and she has the coordination now to scratch it herself. I'm sooooo hoping she isn't allergic to some food, I would hate to have to start trying to figure out what it is, she loves so many different foods!

It's a gloomy day here in Michigan, hope the sun in shining where you're at!

Karen, I didn't go back to read, but Evan had tubes put in his ears? I think we're looking at this for Brenden. He's had an ear infection since January. We're on the 4th antibiotic now. We're going to see an ENT in April (first available appointment!). I'm curious about your experience. Trying to prepare myself for what may happen! You mentioned anesthesia- did they put him out or was is just a local? I'm not sure how old your son is now. Brenden is 20 months.

Hi Everyone,

Lara and Sue, what great pics! I love seeing what all the babies look like :). Sarah, I couldn't see your pics :(. I hope Ella is back on track with her schedule and you figure out what the rash is.

MandMs, I hear you about throwing away food. Asha goes on these strikes every so often and I end up throwing away so much food. I chalk it up to another one of those "phases." We had no problems switching cereals...a little stopped up, but no constipation. And when I switched to oatmeal there was a lot more eating going on. The rice cereal is awful IMHO...Asha's too!

Escher, wow twins...I cannot imagine. One is hard enough for me.

Samantha, I hope things are going well. I used to use the Happiest Baby suggestions in isolation as well...when I started using them together was when we saw a differenct.

Karen, would love to see some pics from the bday party! Glad to hear the surgery went well. I hope Evan is recovering nicely and you both are getting some much needed rest!

Lara, sounds like you have a great schedule...I hope things settle down soon. Sorry to hear about having to throw away all that liquid gold. Natalie may very well switch her nursing on you. It's called reverse cycling...she will do most of her eating when she can nurse around you. It really is no problem, unless of course, it is bothersome for you. But she just may want to cluster feed in the evenings...just a head's up in case she does that!

Well all is well here. DH is out of town until Sunday. My parents may drop in over the weekend. I am just getting ready for Asha's bday party. I feel like I have so much to do. I am getting kind of weird about her turning one. I cannot believe how quickly this year has passed. I find myself staring at her while she sleeps more and more and just holding her as much as I can. My baby is growing up way to fast. Sometimes I just want to freeze time when we are cuddling in the rocking chair and exchanging coos. wahh wahh wahh!

Anyhow, I am hoping tomorrow is a nice day and the two of us will get out of the house. I hope everyone is doing well!

Good morning all.

Anita- Glad to hear all is well with Asha and DH. What are you doing for her first birthday- are you having a big party or something small or just family? DH and I are trying to decide what to do, we need to get moving on it.

Karen- I am gald to hear the procedure went well, I hope it makes Evan feel better. Glad to hear the party was a blast.

Escher- twins, that is quite the handful but I'm sure twice the fun as well.

Susan- Sam is adorable. Sometimes I think the better pictures are the ones where they are not msiling cause you capture their great expressions

Sarah- Hope the Dr figured out what was causing Ellas rash. Maybe it is just the crazy weather? Logan seems to be having more dry skin as the weather here can't ifgure out what it wants to do.

Lara- Glad to here work went well and it sounds like Natalie did very well. There is a bpy in Logans class that refused the bottle and would wait for his mom to nurse and he has done it since his first day there, but he is perfectly happy

Samantha- Glad things are going better with Ryan.

MandMs- 2 teeth, Shay must have a very cute smile.

Well we had a blast in San Antonio, Logan was a party animal, up til close to 9-10 each night, but never fussy. We went to wonderful restaurants, Logan was very content to munch on the homemade flour tortillas we had with our great Mexican food and he loved people watching. He and I ventured out on Sunday alone to Sea World and he LOVED the Shamu show. He stood on my lap the whole time just making noises and laughing and following eveything the whales did. And now that we are home he seems to have adjusted right back to his schedule.
He is taking more steps each day and getting better with walking, and since he transitioons to the next daycare class next Thursday, where they are all walking I think he will only get faster.

Hope everyone is well.

Susan - Evan (DS) just turned 1 last week. He has had 5 ear infections since Thanksgiving. With every cold, he would develop an ear infection within 2 days. The last 2 infections took 2 antibiotics to get rid of. We finally got the ENT referral after his last infection and the ENT said we could wait and see if spring would help, but we were desparate. Evan hasn't slept or eaten well in months. Plus he didn't do well on the hearing test and he had a lot of pressure in his ears because even though the infection was cleared up at the time, the fluid was still in his ears. So, they scheduled the surgery for the following week. Yes, they do have to use general anesthesia to put them out. It is a very delicate surgery. So, that means nothing to eat after midnight - no food/milk, etc. But he could have water, pedialite and apple juice till 4:30am. We were to be at the hospital at 6:30 for registration, they gave him a little tylonel at 7:30 took him at 8:10 for the surgery, by 8:18, the ENT was back to report on how the surgery went and by 8:30 he was awake and nursing. They released us at 8:50 and we were home by 9:30. He slept a lot that day and since then, he's been fine, feeling a lot better. We did have to put antibiotic drops in each ear 3x a day for 5 days after the surgery. We have his followup appt with the ENT next week. Good luck with Brenden. Hope he feels better soon.

Anita - I'll send you an intitation to my ofoto pics from Evan's party. I can't seem to figure out how to post one.

Karen, thanks for the post. Our pediatrician did mention that they may suggest waiting to see if it clears up in the spring. Brenden is generally happy. The only way I know if something is bothering him is that he'll start to wake up at night. Every time we stop an antibiotic, he's awake at least once each night. It doesn't seem like his hearing is affected, but who knows. We were wondering if there was any recovery time or if he'd have to stay home the next day. We need to see how the ENT appointment goes first.

Hope Evan is sleeping better! Sleep deprivation is not fun!

Susan - Evan went to daycare the day after the surgery. No problems.

Don't really have anything new and exciting to post, just wanted to check in and see how everyone's doing. Weather was nice here over the weekend and it seemed like every new mom was out and about pushing a stroller, including me:) !

Question: In the baby books where you can write in the date they get their teeth do you write in the day it broke through or the day it's completely there? DH and I can't agree so I haven't written anything yet.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying spring!

Susan,

Recovery time is almost nonexistent! I've been through this surgery 3 times. Once adenoids were removed too, and recovery time was about a week since removing the adenoids causes a sore throat (and killer bad breath). With the tubes only surgery both girls were back to 100% by noon. Coming out of the anestesia wasn't fun, but that doesn't last too long. DD1 was 9M, and DD2 was 2 when they had tubes only. DD2 had tubes & adenoids at 10M.

hi all!
don't have time to type much.
abby got her two top teeth last week. i write in when they break through in her book (usually several weeks after since i never keep up with it! )
i hired a sitter for 3.5 days a week. it will cost 2.5 times as much as daycare. but i am paying for one to one care as opposed to 1:6. she starts next week and i really hope it works out!
work is going well but this weekend is the first time i am on call so i am really nervous about that - about leaving my dh to deal with abby all night fri and sun! and of course he is on call sat. luckily my inlaws will be staying with us!
it is gorgeous outside spring has officially sprung.
oh and i am due for my period and it hasn't come yet... hmmmm. i had to do ivf to get pg with abby though so i don't think that is it... i guess i will wait another few days..my first period since she was born was 29 days ago so they may not be regular right away....hmm.

Such a quiet bunch lately....

Sarah, I write in the "tooth date" the day I feel it. Her bottom two were within a week of eachother.

angelamaria, not that I'm anxious for AF to return, but I have not had that pleasure since before conceiving DD who is now just over 7 months old! Mine were always so wacky anyway, so I'm not too surprised. It took 2 ultrasounds to somewhat "confirm" my due date. Not sure if I should be concerned or not. For now, I'm still enjoying the "peace". :D

Sunday we had our family "March Birthday Party"...my sis and my cousin. There were about 17 of us. Craziness! Shay was just a joy....smiles, giggles, cooing, despite having no nap all day! My cousins roommate was there with her daughter...born the day after Shay. Well, this baby was sitting up perfectly, crawling, and even standing when you held her by the hands! Everyone was clapping and and "awwww" ing all day! I wanted to scoop up my little still only rolling darling and hide. She is not doing any of these thing yet. :( And I know all babies are different, etc. It's just that this person and her daughter are ALWAYS at our family functions. I don't like her, and not many of the family members like her either. Half the time my cousin brings the baby while the Mom works. I personally think she is just using my cousin as a live-in babysitter. I have serious issues with this girl's Mothering abilities. At my Mom's Christmas party (yup, she was there), she fed her then 3.5 month old ice cream! No offense to anyone who started food at that age...I just didn't think dairy in the form of ice cream was appropriate. I don't know. I need to just stop comparing Shay to this kid. I just swell with pride when people tell me how happy Shay is. This other baby always seems fussy and upset and she rarely smiles. I just don't understand why Shay seems so "behind" in the being mobile dept. :(

Sorry, guys. Just needed to vent a bit.

Hope everyone's little beauties are thriving and I hope all the ears are healing. :)

Lisa- I wouldn't let the differences bother you, although I have room to talk, because I'm the same way. My friends down the street have a baby 2 months older than my DD2. Their baby starting rolling over at 3 1/2 months - my Sam is 5 1/2 months now and just rolls from side to side. So they ask if she's rolling over, and I just said no. I realize every baby is different, and as long as her dr. doesn't have any concerns, I'm fine with it. Plus, like you said about Shay, Sam is a little peach, and almost always pleasant, and I wouldn't trade her for the world. :)

Thanks, SueK. Your posts always make me smile (and make my posts sounds all whiney :D ) DD is simply amazing, and so many people have said that! Someone said to me that she has "smiling eyes". It just bothered me that here I am, trying to do everything "by the book" (and in my opinion, the other baby's mother is not), yet her daughter is doing all these things a nine month old would be doing. Ugh.

You are so right though...I wouldn't change one little hair on her cute little head. I love it that she can make anyone's day by just smiling at them. She does this at the grocery store. The cashiers always just light up when they smile at her, and she busts out a big smile for them. :)

Lisa - I wanted to post yesterday for you but didn't have time. I have three friends who all had babies within 2 months of Ella and we get together often. Ella is the only one that isn't on the move. At 1st I felt a little like you but now I watch her and she's just taking it all in. If when she's just sitting there watching the others move all around she's learning and growing, just like Shay is.
Plus, after watching everyone else chase their little ones around I was happy to be able to sit and enjoy the company without interuptions. Enjoy it while it lasts because it won't long now :) !

Sarah - Thanks, sweetie. I just need to focus on the fact that she's healthy and so very happy. I must be doing something right! :D and yeah, now she'll stay where I put her! I can atleast use the bathroom and not worry about where she'll end up. I did find her on her tummy this morning in her crib, completely turned around from how I placed her the night before. That was new.

We're planning to take our first road trip. It's a 4 hr drive and it'll just be me and DD in the car...no one in the back seat to entertain her. Any advice? Is it possible to make it straight through with a 7 1/2 month old?
