I am considering purchasing a new peppermill. I have never used it, but have seen it in a store (Dean and DeLuca), in Chef's catalogue and on a website. I am wondering if anyone has one like it. It comes in either brass, copper or stainless, is about 8-10 inches tall, has etching on it, and has a cup of the same material on the bottom that collects the pepper or other spice as you grind it (which is the reason I want it). It may be made by Atlas, but I am not sure about that.
They are quite pricey, so my main question is, is it worth it? Other questions are: do they hold up well? any problems with them tarnishing? Gina

I think they're called a Turkish Coffee Grinder and while I've never owned one I've read in BON APPETITE in an article about peppergrinders that they are preferred by some chefs. I bought a tall wood Banton Peppermill and love it. Re: the metal, I don't think it would rust or corrode. They aren't made cheaply.

Not only do I know exactly what you are talking about, but I spent over a year finding one that wasn't ridiculously expensive! I finally found one at Cost Plus Market for only 20 dollars. It has given me no problems with tarneshing-I love it!
