HUNGRY!

Hello.
I am taking my FI to Philly for his 30th birthday in two weeks and I need resturaunt recomendations. I have done a search but I found a lot of places and I'm not sure which are fancy and which are casual. I'm looking for someplace nice- romantic but not stuffy, somewhat dressy but not really dressy. Any kind of food except Indian or seafood is fine.

We are staying at the Lantham Hotel if that helps.

Thanks!

Go to www.gophila.com there is a restuarant book that you can click on and read a description and prices of the restuarants. (Go to the Philly stay one night, next night free link and the dining info is on the left hand sid.
I've heard good things about White Dog Cafe www.whitedogcafe.com and Cuba Libra and Morimoto's is also in Philly. The book will also tell you what parts of the city the restuarants are located in.
Good Luck!

Thanks. I tried www.philly.com and their resturant section was hard to use. This one sounds better. The White Dog Cafe was one I had heard of and I was also thinking about Buddakan.

DD and I ate at Buddaken two weeks ago and recommend it. I think you will find the atmosphere just right and the food and service was very good. We are vegetarians, so most of the menu was off limits, but the dishes we had were delicious. The food is served family style and the portions are very generous. We ordered way too much, but were happy to get to sample a variety all of dishes.

We stayed a few blocks from the Latham, at the Rittenhouse Square Bed and Breakfast, and loved the location. Our reservation at Buddaken was early and we walked there from the B and B.

This was my first time in Philadelphia and I loved it!!

The Striped Bass is near the Latham I believe and also Susanah Foo's place - I've never been to either but really want to go!!!!

MSW - (off topic) did your daughter decide where she's going to go to school? Glad you liked Philly:D

White Dog Cafe is yummy. I've heard good things about the restaurant at the Latham, though I've never been. I think it's more of a regular, everyday kind of place, though, and not so much a place for a special occasion, so maybe think about that for lunch one day? DH had dinner at Cuba Libra with friends before his bachelor party and said it was awesome. We went to Friday Saturday Sunday a couple months ago and enjoyed it.

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I downloaded the Philadelphia dining guide from gophila.com and picked a cute spot called D'Angelo's. My pasta putenesca was great and FI swooned over his lobster francais. I also started with a calabrese salad that tasted just like summer (no small feat for the Northeast in March). We also went to the Lancaster Farmers Market (and just about OD'ed on cookies), had breakfast at the Classic Cake Co., and enjoyed the gourmet cheese shop in Chestnut Hill. Yum!

I LOVE that cheese shop in Chesnut Hill:p - Were you able to do some shopping while you were there? It's a cute town. Glad you enjoyed your Philly experience!!!
