Need suggestions on where to eat, nice B & Bs, and what to see and do in, and around, Rochester, Syracuse, Corning and Binghamton in March. All help appreciated!
foodie - it's been a while since I've been in the area, but don't miss the Corning plant tour and store. Watkins Glen is also beautiful. Here are a couple of websites you may want to try:
www.seawaytrail.com (http://www.seawaytrail.com) this is the scenic route along the lake www.visitrochester.com (http://www.visitrochester.com)
Have a great trip!

I wouldn't miss the wineries! (I live in Ithaca).
The Ithaca Visitors Bureau can send you info if you like. The phone number is (607) 272-1313.
Ithaca also has a few real nice state parks, Taughannock is especially nice. A pleasant walk to some beautiful falls. This will have to depend on the waeater though.
If you are a shopper, Syracuse has a huge mall, Carousel Center, right off I-81. They are planning to expand it and it will compete for the biggest mall in America when they are done.
Syracuse also has a great BBQ diner kind of place called "The Dinosaur" it's downtoen Syracuse.
Hope this helps!

you have to visit the finger lakes area, which is located between rochester and syracuse http://www.fingerlakes.com/ skaneateles is an adorable little village on one of the lakes - it is about 20 minutes from syracuse. there is a wonderful b&b there called hobbit hollow http://www.hobbithollow.com/
there is also an amazing new french country inn and spa called mirbeau http://www.mirbeau.com/home.html
mirbeau has been written up in the new york times magazine and spa magazine (as well as others) it is a great place! and you HAVE to go to rosalie's for dinner if you are near skaneateles - a wonderful italian restaurant.
you could also drive around a few of the lakes and do some of the wine tastings/tours - i'd suggest having lunch at a winery - wagner winery and glenora winery both have nice lunches (both on seneca lake - wagner on the east side and glenora on the west side).

i forgot! if you are near binghamton - i would suggest visiting ithaca - you could walk around the cornell campus and they have some really good restaurants - the moosewood, which is of course famous and has great food. i would suggest lunch or dinner there. there is a cute commons area to walk around with some nice shops. you could also check out some of the the parks, which are beautiful to hike through.
i also second the vote to visit watkins glen - but i'm not sure how good the falls will be in march - it's worth a try though.

There is a gorgeous B&B in Candor, NY (outside of Ithaca) I think it is called Edge of Thyme (it is something...Thyme...) It is located on route 96B.
There is also another B&B on Route 96 east of Rochester, around Victor, NY. (I am unsure of the name...but it is the only one in the area on Rt 96)
Hammondsport, NY & Bath, NY are nice towns, where there are some wineries.
I would highly recommend Ithaca. From Rochester it is about 1.5 hours east and if you go route 96 the ride is beautiful. The "Commons" downtown, is where some nice restaurants are (across the street from the building that "The Moosewood" is in, on N Tioga St.)
There are more restaurants and shops on the top of the hill (just follow the signs for Cornell U.).
One more thing... if you see a "Wegmans" definately stop in... you will see what everyone on this BB raves about.
Around Waterloo, NY there is a huge outlet mall. Also, when ever I am in downtown Corning, I go to the Rubbermaid outlet on the main drag. It is fantastic.
If you enjoy antique shopping...route 96 is swamped with stores. There are a few good ones... in Trumansburg right on rt 96.
One thing regarding weather...you will want to dress warmly !!

Can't believe this post! I was born in Skaneateles and most of my relatives are still living in up-state NY/Finger Lakes region, so I go back frequently. Must recommend visiting Skaneateles (so cute)...The Krebs is a fabulous restaurant for Sunday brunch. Everytime I am in town, I make sure to go to Doug's Fish Fry for my fried food fix. HUGE fish sandwiches in a VERY local atmosphere. Have a great time. Let us know how it went!

I grew up in Watkins Glen. My husband and I often frequent a B&B/winery called Castle Grisch. It is lovely. It is on the West side of Seneca Lake over looking the lake and the vinyard. Very nice. Keuka Lake is also wonderful. There are great wineries there as well. Skaneatles is really beautiful. Remember, the Clinton's were looking into moving there.
JLS I don't know of that B&B in Candor. Could you find out the real name of it, and maybe tell a little more about it. I would be very interested.
Thanks
Colleen
