My hubby and I wanted to go to the movies tonight but there doesn't seem to be that much playing. We recently saw Starsky and Hutch and that was funny. Any good movies out there.... rentals or new?

Most recent movie I saw was fantabulous -- The Triplets of Belleville. It's very funny, yet strangely melancholy, and absolutely brilliant.
I also rented Once Upon a Time in Mexico t'other day. This is full of the most terrible violence, but it's so cartoony I couldn't be shocked. It is, in fact, a hoot; it starts off quietly enough, and builds to a peak of utter ridiculousness and wild invention. Of course, with this I also rented something called Teknolust, for no other reason than that it starred Tilda Swinton as a mad scientist. That... was a mongrel of the smelliest description.
Other than that, I've mostly been making terrible filmic choices. I've been sorta trying to watch Oscar nominees/winners, and have discovered that either it was a dreadful year, or my taste differs from the entire Academy. Whale Rider -- quite good; a little bit too consciously "artee" in places, but good; Pirates -- darn fine entertainment, but hardly, I'd've said, worthy of the statue; Seabiscuit -- blech! blech! pass the insulin!; Lost in Translation -- lost me completely, is there a plot hidden anywhere among all these Terribly Pretty and Well Set-Up Images?

Hidalgo is a great movie. Plus Viggo is pretty hot in those tight cowboy pants; for an old guy at least. ;)

I really enjoyed Mystic River! The acting was superb and the film followed the book remarkably well. DH is from Boston so the movie struck a personal cord with him and he was a bit depressed by it all. He said the characters were too real for him; he grew up around "thugs" like that who never did anything with their lives. But I thought it was outstanding!

Ouch! lol...give me an 'old guy' like that any day of the week. Demi Moore's out of her mind to be dating a smooth faced little pipsqueak like Ashton Kutcher when there are guys her own age running around who are 300 times more interesting.

What about Home on the Range-looks like such a cute one for the kids and for me-I'm really looking forward to it-esp since the commercials look hilarious!

I saw him on David Letterman, and not only he's hot, he is also really charming..interesting..low key. I'll take that old guy ANYtime over some cookie cutter pretty boy. :)

Count me in the Viggo-before-pretty-boys team.
After all, how many pretty boys have been known to eat roadkill, or used to be married to Exene Cervenka of X?
You just gotta KNOW he's an interesting guy!
