I am making the ham for easter. I have a spiral sliced ham and I'm looking for inspiration on ways to prepare it. Any suggestions? TIA! :)

My fav recipe has become the Fire and Spice ham.

Fire and Spice Ham

Recipe By :Cooking Light Magazine. December 2002. Page: 108.
Serving Size : 18 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Meats

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 33%-less-sodium smoked, fully cooked ham
half (5-1/2-to 6-pound)
Cooking spray
1/2 cup red pepper jelly
1/2 cup pineapple preserves
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Directions.
Sweet-hot pepper jelly and tangy pineapple preserves create an easy glaze for the ham.

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

2. Trim fat and rind from ham half. Score outside of ham in a diamond pattern. Place ham on a broiler pan coated with cooking spray. Combine jelly and remaining ingredients, stirring with a whisk until well blended. Brush about one-third of jelly mixture over ham.

3. Bake at 425 degrees for 5 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees (do not remove ham from oven); bake an additional 45 minutes, basting ham with jelly mixture every 15 minutes. Transfer ham to a serving platter; let stand 15 minutes before slicing. Yield: 18 servings (serving size: about 3 ounces).

I'm wondering if this recipe is "hot", as there will be kids eatng this as well. I want to make this recipe, when it is for DH and I, but thought I should make something that would satisfy the whole group. Thanks for the recipe; I know I will try it in the future, as it sounds good to me.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks :)

My husband found this on the WW site a couple of years ago - we did it for Easter, and it was absolutely fabulous.

It's got a great "slow burn" to it, not too intense for kids (my 9-yr-old loves it).

Any more suggestions out there? I'd like to have a few options to discuss with my mom for Easter! :)

My In-Laws have been begging me for this recipe since I made it for Christmas 2 years ago. They won't eat ham now unless I make it.

It's kinda time consuming but SO worth it.

I'm making it this year for Easter.
Rootbeer Ham with Kumquats
Recipe courtesy, Terri Kurlan, McKinney, Texas

Recipe Summary
Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 6 hours 15 minutes
12 to 15 pound ham, spiral cut preferably
2 liters quality rootbeer
1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
3 to 4 tablespoons hot spicy mustard
2 tablespoons dry mustard
1 pound kumquats or green seedless grapes

Preheat oven to 220 degrees. Wash ham thoroughly and pat dry. Place ham in roaster that has a lid. Pour 1 liter of rootbeer over ham. Add half the kumquats and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Bake covered, for 6 hours, basting often. When done, remove ham from juices and discard juices. Return ham to roaster. In saucepan, combine remaining brown sugar and 2 cups of rootbeer. Bring to a boil and reduce until thickened enough to coat ham. Remove from heat and stir in both kinds of mustard. Brush sauce over top of ham and return to 300 degree oven uncovered to let brown. Add more sauce as needed. Add remaining kumquats during final 15 to 20 minutes of cooking. Be careful not to burn top of ham. Serve remaining sauce separately.

This is from the Food Network Kitchens. I made it with grapes the last time, but I hope to do Kumquats this time.

I just wanted to recommend a way to use the leftover spiral ham. Make ham salad! It is great on sandwiches. I didn't learn about it until I moved down South...maybe it was just a thing my parents weren't into. :)

Thanks for the Cranberry-Orange ham recipe. It came out great and was so easy! :) Made me look like a ham pro.

Mom bought an 8 pound bone-in sliced ham for the 4 of us. ("The small ones didn't look festive" - LonghornGal's mom). So I doubled the amounts for the glaze and it ended up being just about right.

After slicing the ham and putting it on the serving plate, I spooned a bit of the glaze from the pan over the slices so they were nice and moist. The glaze is not overpowering, just a nice complement to the ham, and since it's cooked on it made a nice carmelized layer.

Thanks again - I'm looking forward to leftovers (and trust me, there's a lot!)
