I am getting ready to do 3 rooms and would love to know about this laminate, the brand possibly the store if its a chain and can you float it? This sounds like the answer for me, I've looked at pergo and don't like it. Not crazy about all those glues either, thats why I would rather lay floating but if its as nice as you say I suppose I could sniff glue for a while, lol. TIA

mlou, I think you can float all those laminate floors. Not only that, but most of them are coming out with the type that snap together so you don't need any glue at all. I think the price is competitive with the other laminates.

Hi Mlou...
Yes, it's a floating floor. The brand we bought is Congoleum. As I mentioned, the store I bought from (it's a little local flooring store) won't deal with Pergo because of quality issues. But they stand behind this laminate product. The company sells two "grades" of the laminate, one guaranteed for 10 years, and 1 guaranteed for 20 years (thicker, more layers of laminate). I bought the better kind, as I plan to live here for quite awhile. The glue is no problem at all. It has no smell whatsoever (it's kind of like wood glue). It's designed to be watertight. The planks go together tongue in groove, but the glue is placed only in the tongue and groove section and makes a nice tight bond. The floor is NOT glued directly to the floor. Only the planks are glued at the seams. Again, no odor at all.
The phone number for Congoleum (they could give you a retailer in your area) is 800-274-3266.
Hope that helps, and good luck with whatever you choose to go with!

luv2cook:
I've only had mine about 2 weeks now, but I have been wishing and saving up for it for about 5 years. All my friends/relatives in Europe have had them forever, and so do some of my friends here, and I have been in love with them for a long time. I can't tell you how much I love this floor. I have two labs (one is 3 yrs old, the other is 3 months old! - So you can imagine how much running around and wrestling they do!), and they just can't scratch it up. It's wonderful. It looks so beautiful too. I'm very, very happy to finally get what I wanted all these years.
