I am "searching" for this recipe for Banana Split Dessert. When I moved to Florida I lost it. It was wonderful!!! It was made in a 9 x 13 pan lined with a graham cracker crust. I know the filling was a "white" filling, meaning cream cheese & other ingredients I can't remember. It was then topped with crushed pineapple, canned cherry pie filling and of course sliced bananas. I got it from a thin hardcovered cookbook maybe 12 or 13 years ago. I don't rememeber the name of the cookbook. It contained all desserts recipes and had a hardcover that was white & yellow plaid???? I am really hoping someone out there has this recipe. Thanks!!

I'm not sure what book this came from, a friend gave it to me years ago. Later there was something similar, but a pizza concept. Hope this helps.

BANANA SPLIT CAKE
(make 24hrs in advance)
This recipe of Linda's came originally from Joanne D. April's recipe is essentially the same, two ingredients differ in quantity and they are noted in brackets behind.

2C Graham Cracker Crumbs
1/2C Melted Butter (1 cube)
3/4C Finely Crushed Walnuts, optional

Combine and line bottom of 9x13 baking pan. Can bake for 10 min in 300° oven.

2C Powdered Sugar
1C Softened Butter (2 cubes) [3/4C]
2 Eggs
1t Vanilla

Beat eggs until light (about 4 min), add sugar, butter, vanilla and beat 5 min more.

DO NOT UNDER BEAT (sometimes up to 15 min). Spread over cooled crust. Chill 30 min.

Layer:
4 Medium Bananas, sliced [3]
1 lg. Can Crushed Pineapple, well drained
1 Large Carton Cool Whip, spread like frosting
1/2C Finely Chopped Nuts
Maraschino Cherry Halves as garnish/decoration

Refrigerate overnight.

To serve: Heat can of "Hot Fudge" topping and drizzle over pieces

Leonard, this recipe is well over 12 or 13 years old. About 25 years ago, frustrated with problems at work and having just broken up with a boyfriend, I ate almost an entire pan of this stuff. And became awfully sick! Haven't had any since.

Ahhhh, memories... :o

My grandmother use to make this dessert. There are a few different versions -- some of which do not use the butter and raw eggs, but the butter and raw eggs version is the tastiest.

OK, Leonard, I think this is what you're looking for. I would get killed if I did not make this at Thanksgiving every year.

Banana Split Cake

Ingredients:

2 Tbs. sugar
1 stick melted butter or margarine
2 cups crushed graham crackers or oreo cookies for crust(I use oreos)
2 8-oz. packages of cream cheese or lite cream cheese, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
5 to 6 bananas, sliced
1 20 oz. or three 8 oz. cans of crushed pineapple, drained well
1 10 to 12 oz. container or Cool Whip(don't use lite)
Marischino cherries, drained and quartered, as many as you want as a topping
Chopped pecans as a topping
Hershey's syrup as a topping

Use a 9 x 13 inch pan. Combine the first 3 ingredients and, using a fork, make a crust in the pan. Combine cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until creamy. Spoon on top of crust. Take Bananas and put on top of cream cheese mixture. Put crushed pineapple on top of bananas. Put Cool Whip on top of pineapple. Take cherries and nuts and put on top of Cool Whip. If desired, drizzle chocolate on top. Chill overnight.

Variations: I usually use a nice, large glass serving bowl instead of the 9 x 13 inch pan, for a prettier presentation, putting in two layers of banana slices. I also slice up fresh strawberries and layer them on top of the pineapple before putting the whipped topping on. I also wait until the morning of serving to put on the cherries, nuts and chocolate, because sometimes the cherry juice runs a bit.

This does taste a lot like a banana split. I hope this is what you were looking for.

Thanks so much for the recipe. That is pretty close to my recipe. The only difference is mine called for canned cherry pie filling and no cool whip on top. Actually, yours sounds much more decadent! Thanks, I will try it!

Give it a shot, Leonard, and let me know how it turned out. It's always a big hit at our house and with guests.

For years I had to make this each Fourth of July. I had all but forgotten about this. I'll make it for Easter this year. It is delicious.

I found my recipe for "BANANA SPLIT DESSERT"!!!!!!!! It was in a box with some old cookbooks that I packed away when we moved here to Florida. Finally, looked through all the boxes! It is so similar to the one that is posted. Here it is for anyone who is interested. I've always made this the morning of the party because of the cherry pie filling and the bananas. Do you think I can make the entire thing tomorrow for Sunday???

CRUST:

2 cups graham cracker crumbs (28) crackers
1/2 cup butter, melted

FILLING:

2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 8 ounce cream cheese, softened
1 8 ounce container cool whip, thawed
4 large bananas
1 20 ounce can crushed pineapple, drained
1 21 ounce can cherry pie filling
1 cup chopped pecans

1. To make crust: in a large bowl, stir crumbs and butter. Firmly press mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Chill crust.

2. To make filling: in a large bowl, beat the powdered sugar and cream cheese with a mixer till combined. Carefully fold HALF of the cool whip into the mixture.

3. Spread filling on top of chilled crust. set aside.

4. Slice bananas; arrange on top of filling. Top with crushed pineapple. Then cover with cherry pie filling. Cover and chill for 4 to 8 hours.

5. Garnish each serving with rest of cool whip and sprinkle with nuts.

SHOULD I MAKE IT THE DAY BEFORE. THE RECIPE SAYS CHILL UP TO 8 HOURS???

Maybe you could make it last thing before you go to bed. (And go to bed LATE!:D ) Or you could make the crust and filling the day before and just add the fruit in the morning if you plan to serve it later in the day.

Have you ever made it with non-fat cream cheese and/or light cool whip?

I haven't made it with either but the recipe says for a lowfat version to use Neufechatel cream cheese and lite cool whip and even lite pie filling. I don't ever remember seeing "lite" pie filling?? Anyway, I'm sure it would be just as good. I prefer my desserts the full fat way!!! BTW: The recipe also says you can substitute peach or strawberry pie filling.
