Any Chautauquans out there?

The discussion that included former Pittsburghers got me wondering if there are any CLers who also summer at Chautauqua, New York. My in-laws have a home there and we are there for at least a week or more every summer.

Your post brings back fond memories. I spent part of my childhood growing up in Warren, PA, about 40 miles from Erie, and we used to go to Chautauqua all the time!

We used to love to sit in the big rocking chairs on the Lenhart Hotel porch and sip a cocktail! Wonderful place in the summer.

Oh my gosh!!! You must be kidding?! I am the biggest Chautauquan of them all! I've gone every summer since I was 6 and love it! I think its the most wonderful place in the whole world!

JLS, unless you're boycotting the entire state of New York, I think you're confusing Chappaqua (sp.)(where the Clintons reside) with Chautauqua, which is an absolutely beautiful spot in western New York. Every summer (and for many years), Chautauqua hosts an institute with scholars and lecturers. When I was in college in western PA, I had a good friend from Chautauqua. One spring, before any of the residents were there, we docked a boat there and walked around -- it was so neat.

I love Lake Chautauqua! My mom's cousin has a home there and we try and visit every summer. It's so beautiful! My mom grew up in Fairview (right outside of Erie) and we have spent time there every summer for as long as I can remember.

Hey! How about a CL get together at Chaut. this summer? We can all go out to eat at one of the fine restaurants around the area. We usually go the first week in August but will probably make it up for long weekends too. Let me know via email with any interest. My DH also love it off season. BethH our favorite speaker last summer was Diogenes Allen.

DH and I got our scuba certification after doing our open water dive at Lake Chautauqua! It's a GREAT place, for sure!

I was born in Jamestown and raised in the surrounding area. Spent my 7th grade in the school across from Chatauqua. Mom and Brother still live in Frewsburg and we plan of flying out to visit again this summer.

A Cooking Light get together in Chautauqua?? How about a side trip to the wineries in PA & NY? My husband and I join our Warren friends each year to stock up on wine. Our favorite wineries are Penn Shore, Woodbury, Merritt and Schloss-Doepken.
