I've decided to make Easter dinner for a group of friends - and will be baking a ham for the first time! Simple question...is there really a big difference between spiral ham/non-spiral ham - either in terms of taste or presentation/ease of carving?

I'd also appreciate any feedback on my menu so far - is there too much or not enough of anything??

Shrimp Cocktail
Artichoke Dip

Baked Virginia Ham (still deciding on the glaze)
Maple Sweet Potato Casserole
Homemade Applesauce
Asparagus with browned balsamic butter
Glazed carrots/snap peas

Dessert - I think I'm just going to break down and buy a fruit tart at Whole Foods!!

Personally, I do not think that spiral hams are worth the price. If you are serving it cold for sandwiches that would be OK, but I think they dry out when heated. And cooking and carving a ham isn't as hard as doing a turkey or beef tenderloin--there is one temp and no pieces. Your menu looks really yummy--a nice balance of flavors and textures, hot and cold. You know, you could always serve coffee, tea, and chocolates, jelly beans, and Peeps for dessert :p
