Anyone have experience or ideas using a canape mold they'd like to share? The thread about the least used must-have thing you own got me thinking. I have had these molds for YEARS and haven't used them. One is heart shaped so I thought it would be fun to try making something with it for Val. day. TIA!

I'll look in my Martha Stewart Hors d'oerves
(what a horrible word to try to spell!) cookbook when I get home. I believe she has many ideas. You might also want to check her web site

donkleyK:

I too have a canape mold that I have never used. I was a gift from a friend who bought one for herself. Neither one of us knows what to do with it. I would be interested in the responses you get.

Sorry this has taken me awhile, but it has been impossible for me to get in to the BB at night!
I think what you might have is a bread tube. Is this correct? If it is, I use mine all the time. (I do have a lot of parties) Most simple thing to do is by a can of french bread dough and spray oil the tube. Place it in a 375 oven for 50-60 minutes. Take it out and cool. Then slice and toast. Sometimes I roll the bread dough in dried herbs and shedded cheese (ie basil and parm). Then what to top it with? Martha has made tea sandwiches out of them. I usually make a PC recipe for a greek cheese layered dip. I'll be happy to post (when I can get on) any further recipes you made want. I hope this is what you have!!!!

Kelli,

That is it exactly!

I was thinking of making a cinamon bread recipe then put it in the mold and bake. I thought it would be nice to slice, and drizzle a little powdered sugar incing then serve, but I can see the bread drying out quickly.... I don't have much imagination when it comes to food. Thanks for any suggestions you have!

This type of stuff is right up my alley....so here goes some ideas!!
I liked your cinnamon idea. You could make the bread and then slice to make french toast. Served with a berry compote would be nice for Valentines day. (If you don't want to make the dough, buy the french bread and unroll. Mix cinnamon, sugar and raisins if you like and spread, reroll, and bake.)

spread with hummus and top with cucumber slices.
spread with herbed goat cheese or cream cheese and top with sun dried tom's or roasted red peppers maybe some fresh basil leaves.
They make great croutons to serve with soup, stew, or salads. I've rolled the dough in sesame seeds before baking and it turned out great.
You could make pesto pinwheels....unroll dough, spread with pesto, reroll and bake. This would go terrific with a pasta dinner.
You could make a sheet of brownies and use the heart as a cutter...brownie sundaes for Valentines day! You could stuff it with softened ice cream, refreeze, unmold, and cut for brownie ice cream sandwiches.
They really don't dry out quickly. Even for my spinach dip I make these and place them around the dip bowl. People love the shapes. Mini pizzas are always a hit too. Or topped with a curried shrimp salad. Rare Roast beef with a horseradish cream, alittle freah parsley spig. (I toast the bread for these before assembling. I brush them with a little bit of roasted garlic oil. Adds a nice taste.)
Does that help?
