Does anyone else have the Ben and Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream and Dessert Book? I bought this last summer when I bought my cuisinart ice cream maker from Sam's (with a bonus freezer bowl-so handy), and I just love it! I haven't made any of the fruit ice creams yet (I kind of got hung up on Heath Bar Crunch and Chocolate. Not to mention Oreo Mint and Chocolate). I do use fat free half and half in many of the recipes instead of cream, but the difference is negligible, given the calorie and fat savings.

brownie,
I recently ordered this book from half.com...glad to hear you've had success using fat-free half and half...any rcipes you recommend trying first?

Gail, I like all 3 of the sweet cream bases, although for ease of use and a reduced amount of fat, my favorite one to use when I'm making something other than just plain vanilla is the third one--2 cups (fat-free) half and half, and 1 cup (fat-free) sweetened condensed milk. I've also made: Heath bar crunch, coffee heath bar crunch, Mocha swiss chocolate almond, oreo mint(although I will warn you-I think the amount of peppermint extract is a misprint. I tried the 2 tsp they recommended and we couldn't eat it. I use 1/4 tsp.),ben's chocolate, Jerry's chocolate, chocolate cinnamon, chocolate chip cookie dough, and coffee. I will tell you that in any of these recipes, you can figure out which ingredients make up the sweet cream (vanilla ice cream) base, and sub the FF half and half/Eagle brand milk combo. It makes it a little less rich, but there is so much less fat and fewer calories that you can make it more often. Hope you enjoy the book! :)
