My son had an off the road motorcycle accident yesterday. He came home and I had to take him to ER. They did X-Rays and CAT Scan.
He had two broken ribs, a torn liver and bruised kidney. So, he had to spend the night in ICU. Supposedly, there was so much going on in ICU, that I did not get to see him until about 9:30 after he went in at 7:30 and then not until noon today.... Today, they did more X-Rays and found that although he didn't have punctured lung, his right lung was bruised.
They were trail riding. The 4 wheeler topped the hill and right over, stopped right in the middle of the trail, because he couldn't see for the dust. My son topped the hill at approx. 30 MPH, according to him...who knows...), slid sideways when he saw him and it threw my son sideways into the back of the 4 wheeler. \
I worry that my son has a death wish. Do you ever get over worrying?

Joyce -
I may be a mom of a toddler but I sympathize. I hope he gets better soon.

Sorry to hear about your sons accident, but glad it wasn't worst.
Not sure how old your son is, but just yesterday I made the comment to a friend who has 2 kids, 2 & 7 that I worry more now that mine are in there early 20's than I did when they were younger :(
Maybe I have an issue letting go :o
Hope your son has a swift recovery !

I don't have any children but I work in a hospital. I'm sorry to hear about your son's accident. It must have been very frustrating to have to wait around so much for the results. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
If it's any consolation, when I was in 3rd grade my best friend and I went out to the end of the pier. We crouched down on our knees and used sticks to push at the ice on the lake. Well, your's truly pushed too far out and next thing you know I was completely in the lake, winter coat, boots and all. Problem was, my mom and her boyfriend at the time weren't home (of course we'd been told not to leave the house while they went to the grocery store!) and my friend was a couple of years younger than me....translating into much too small to lift me out of the lake on her own much less me + waterlogged winter coat and boots. I was so shocked by the cold water I couldn't think. I treaded water for awhile but eventually started to get weak and finally started to sink down from the weight of my clothes and the cold. Just as I had given up, down to the lake comes running my mother's boyfriend who, thankfully, was a doctor and who knew exactly what needed to be done to treat me for shock. I lived, but I'm sure my mother wondered the same about me. :D

I'm glad your son isn't hurt any worse. I think young people just don't think about their own mortality. You've been through a lot lately. (((jmarie)))

he's a wild one, my little brother. this doesn't come as much of a shock to me since he's always getting hurt one way or another, but maybe, just maybe, this'll make him think a little bit harder about learning to live with the dirtbike he has now instead of getting a REAL motorcycle. maybe ya'll should pray more for my mom since she's the one thats going to have to deal with him at home for the next few days!! ;)
My brother is pushing 50 and was in a motorcycle accident last weekend -- broken collar bone, 2 broken ribs, a broken shoulder blade and a torn lung. And since Friday marked one year after I passed out and ran off the road driving home -- I think my parents would tell you it never ends. I think that at some point they just worry about you more and it evens out. ;)

My mom says she still worries about us. Just this weekend I had this overwhelming feeling of worry about my two. My DS drives to Boston almost every weekend and it just makes me worry. There is nothing I can do, I have to let them fly.
I hope your son heals up soon.

Thank you all for your responses. I will say that God gave me one child who gave me gray hair but he also gave me a more responsible child, who is wild in organized ways:p ...ie: white water rafting, bungee jumping, skiiing, parachuting off the Gauley Bridge. I worry about things that could happen to lil'jmarie, but I worry about what her brother can do to himself.
However, this is the first time, he will be responsible for his own deductible, andI have a feeling this one might be the big one. That won't knock any sense into him either. Sheesh. Thanks to all of you for allowing me to vent.

Wow, Joyce, I'm so sorry to hear about your son's accident. I, too, worry more about them now that they are older!! My second son is the more "adventerous" of the 3 and the one most likely to be hurt. Hope your son has a speedy recovery and that you get a reprieve for awhile!

DD just got her driver's license two weeks ago. So far, she's still driving with either DH or me in the car, but, with all these crazy NJ drivers, I worry about her!
