I was reading Indianapolis Monthly last night when I found a little side story mentioning the arrival of Trader Joes next month!!!! I feel silly about how excited I am about this...dearest SO looked at me like I was completely crazy when I started jumping up and down!
Anyway, I just wanted to share my excitement with all of you and to inform any Hoosiers on the BB that one is opening on West 86th Street next month. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Oh Beth!! Lucky you!! Don't feel silly, I was at least as excited as you, and I still get a little thrill every time I make a trip there! You will LOVE it, and maybe you'll be like me and have a hard time staying away from the place, or not buying everything you lay eyes on! Let us know how you like it when it finally opens up!

Hi Robin!
I just went to the one in Westwood this past weekend. It was also my first time @ at a T.J.'s, and yes the size of the store suprised me. I was expecting it to be much bigger. But my-oh-my, they sure did make good use of that small space!!! Lots of yummy treats. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Congratulations to all of you Hoosiers!
Trader Joe's has been in Southern CA for years. I am glad to see that they are expanding to other areas as well. Your SO will not think that you are so crazy once you bring home some of their delectables!

NydiaC,
Thanks for the info. There are a few in CT, but it would be a road trip. If one ever opens closer, I would definately check it out after reading all of these posts.

I was inspired to check out their list of stores, and found out there actually are several in the Boston area. It's just that none of them are too close to me. I think I will have to make a road-trip one day to the Swampscott store based on everybody's recommendations!

I wish everyone could be close to a Trader Joe's! If you are within reasonable driving distance it would be worth a roadtrip! I feel that way about two stores - Trader Joe's and Ikea!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif LOVE THEM http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Enjoy often Beth - it's a place you will never get tired of.

Hi Robin -
I've been to the one in Westwood. I have to try to stay away. The last time I went - I spent about $100! It was way too easy to spend that much. But, the selection was awesome. To be honest, I was first lured in there by their advertising - I thought it was going to be like Costco! I was shocked when I saw how big it was!

Wow! What a great discovery! I'm glad I stumbled upon this message and the link to TJ's. Turns out there is one in Florham Park, NJ (where my aunt and uncle live). I can't wait to check it out the next time I visit them-- or maybe it's worth a separate trip. This time of year-- the winter blah's-- it's always good to find a new activity for the weekends!

OK--it has finally arrived! I went yesterday and dragged DB along with me. He ended up loving it and thought it was so funny that I went to a place for the very first time with a list in my mind of what we needed to look for http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
We got out of there only spending ~$50 and I considered us lucky (I would have spent more without his restraint present). For that amount we got:
Pirate's Booty (it is good!)
PB filled pretzels--to die for
Choc. covered espresso (for DB-his fave candy)
spicy black bean dip
curry simmer sauce
frozen halibut, sea bass and peeled and deveined shrimp (for $5 cheaper than Wild Oats!)
Frozen wild mushroom medley
Luna bars
OK, there was more but I can't remember right now. It had just opened, but they were already all out of all flavors of potstickers. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go back again!
Thanks everyone for all your recommendations! I loved it--just like you all said I would!

I went to TJ's for the first time this weekend and was in heaven! I bought some stuff but need to return this coming weekend as I wasn't going home so I couldn't get frozen/refrig stuff. I'd like to ask how people like their fish. They have great prices..........opinions????

Hi Kelly - the shrimp is excellent. I always stock up on both cooked and raw (frozen). It is very reasonable - by comparison and is great to have on hand. I tried the frozen swordfish years ago and was not impressed. I think frozen fish is toufh to do well. Enjoy!!

Kelli,
I've never had a problem with their frozen fish (salmon, cod, mahi-mahi). Of course, fresh is the best but I wouldn't even consider buying the 'fresh' fish in the grocery stores considering the smell walking by the fish counter (and even worse when you can smell it a couple of aisles away http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif )! I would say give it a try. At least at TJs prices you wouldn't be out of alot of money if you didn't like it.

You will love TJ's. We went to one of the first stores in So.Cal. in Manhattan Beach
in the 60s. I buy my milk, wine, some produce, dried fruits, bread there!
