I just came across Brush Creek's site (as an advertisement on Dr. Weil's site) and they sell organic flax seed and will send you a free grinder with your first order. (Editing to say you have to buy 6 pounds :rolleyes: to get the free grinder.) They also have some good sounding recipes. Here's an example:

Tasty Flaxseed Waffles

Start with 4 eggs, whites separated and beaten - 2 yolks used and 2 yolks thrown away.
* 1/2 cup canola oil
(If you have a good non-stick iron you may substitute 1/4 cup applesauce and 1/4 cup canola oil for the 1/2 cup canola oil)
* 1 cup milk
* 3/4 cup cottage cheese (2% small curd)
* 1 cup whole wheat flour
* 1/2 cup soy flour
* 1/4 cup ground oats
* 1/4 cup white flour* 1/4 cup milled flaxseed
(more can be sprinkled on top of batter after poured into iron)
* 1/4 to 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
* 4 teaspoons baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix liquids together, mix dry ingredients together and add altogether. Fold in the egg whites and cook on your waffle iron.

They're also looking for recipes and say if they use your recipe on their site they'll send you a free bag of flax. Here's a link:

Ooh, this looks good!! Thanks so much for posting. I need to eat more flaxseed for a number of reasons, and for whatever reason, I just never seem to get around to doing it. Not sure whether I'll buy six pounds though...I'll have to think about that! :D But thanks again. I'm bookmarking the site.

OK. I went ahead and ordered! The website says that the flaxseeds, when left whole, last indefinitely and that it's only the ground up ones that go bad quickly. So I figured I could get through six pounds in a year or so!! (Good incentive to eat lots of flax, eh?) :D And the recipes look great. So many for pancakes and waffles and muffins. I'm going to make one they had listed called "Delicious cherry Flax Bread with Oranges" - made with dried cherreis, berries, and orange zest/juice (plus flaxseed, of course! :D ).

I'll let you know how I like it all when it arrives in the next couple of days.

Good for you! I'll look forward to any feedback about the company, the flax seed... and the recipes!! I wonder how golden flax seed differs from the brown ones you usually see? I didn't have time this morning to thoroughly play on the site or place an order, but I saved the link to check it out this weekend and will probably buy some too. I already have a grinder so I'll pass on the 6 pounds, but as you said, a great incentive to include more healthy flax in your diet!
