Pining for my favorite water bottles that are in the DW and resorting to a glass only to have one of my cats stick her paw in and start drinking from it made me wonder how many of you drink your allotted 8 glasses a day. Also, do you carry/use a water bottle with a straw or a lid? Do you take it with you in the car?

I use a Tupperware red/white checkered bottle. I have two and alternate. They don't spill. I like that. I use them all the time and actually take them to work with me and in the car...

I know it looks strange, but I carry a 16-oz Caribou Coffee travel mug with a straw sticking out of it to drink my water. That way I can take a sip while I'm driving and not have to take my eyes off the road. I also have several no-name 32-oz mugs that I tote around in the summer. I like the mugs because they don't sweat and keep cold longer. Picked up the habit from my best friend.

I drink alot of water; a by-product of what I learned from Weight Watchers. We have a filtered water spigot on our kitchen sink; I drink a glass, then leave the empty glass there to reuse (we don't have cats!). This bugs my husband (who, mind you, will leave DIRTY dishes in the sink), but I'd go through so many glasses if I took a fresh one each time! I get cases of 0.5 liter bottles of Poland Spring at Costco; bring them in to work. They're small enough to fit in my lunchbag in the fridge and to comfortably carry around. I also bring them in the car on trips, but as I work 5 miles from my house, I don't usually need water in the car. BYW, I have lots of Tupperware, but I have to admit, I prefer beverages in glass glasses. A couple of years ago, I bought a bunch of glasses from a restaurant supply store -- heavier duty than alot of regular glasses.

Glasses aren't safe in this house in another way. We have a "temporary" entable, no coffee table as of yet, and the new dog, Jake, likes to go under it thus creating an accident waiting to happen. we've already lost one coffee mug at 3:00 a.m! Plus the aforementioned cats in the glass problem!

I usually buy water in sports bottles - & just reuse the bottle until I buy another one, or it gets thrown away for whatever reason.

I buy the Poland Springs 24oz sport bottle and reuse the bottle until I decide I need a new one. They're only 50 cents at my supermarket. I have waterbottles at home, but I don't like drinking out of them so much. I find that I get water all over myself somehow. The Poland Springs bottles fit in our bike holders and are great to bring to the gym. Also, I can keep track of how much I drink. I have two of them at my desk at work and I make sure I drink at least 48 oz while at work (we have a water cooler here with bottled water where I fill up). I also try to drink a glass of water before leaving for work and I try to add an extra 8 oz when I first fill up my water bottle at work- I'll fill up the bottle and then fill up a cup to take back to my desk.

What's with the cats having to stick their paws in the water first? My cat always does this and makes it impossible for me to keep a glass of water on my night table. If it's a tall glass and he can't reach the water, he'll just knock it over. Jerk.

cats are facinated by it, Mrs. Reber. Your guess is as good as mine! Every morning like clockwork my Ragdoll bangs on the cabinets in the bathroom. She wants us to lift her up and run water or fill the sink up so she can drink. I think because they're so inquisitive, too, is why they do it...

Our cat likes nothing more than to paw at that glass of water on the night stand until it gets knocked over so we have bottled water for night time.

I do try to drink the recommended amounts. I feel better when I do. Lately, I've been drinking bottled water at work and altho' we have a recycling program here I worry about the waste so I go back and forth between bottled and fountain. The fountain water scares me some tho'. Just can't win!

that's why I use a reuseable bottle. I feel guilty about the waste - so much of it. I also like the Tupperware bottles because they don't sweat! unlike the one I'm temporarily using. ugh.

I drink at least 8 glasses a day. I use my "water glass" which is an O-L-D tupperware 16 oz measuring cup with lid that has a pouring spout, I use a straw. I like it because it does not spill and for some reason I can wolf down 16 oz of water in no time at all while driving my car. I use this glass only for water, which I have been using for at least 7 years!

I have a big water bottle that came from a walk-a-thon my husband's work sponsored (he's a physical therapist). It has a screw-on lid with a straw. It is getting really old and worn now, but I take it with me every day to work, and I try to drink two bottles-full each day.

At home, I have some plastic glasses with ridges for easy gripping that I use to drink just about anything. I drink water in these with breakfast and with dinner. Plus, I don't have cats, so I am able to have a glass of water on my nightstand, and I usually have a couple drinks during the night when I wake up parched.

I don't really keep track of my water intake -- I just try to drink as much of it as possible and minimize how much pop & caffeine I consume. I also consistently order water to drink in restaurants, and I definitely keep the "water filler" busy.

And that reminds me -- my water bottle is empty, so it's time for a refill! I'm lucky that here at work we have a water cooler with really good water!

During the week, I definately get my 8 glasses a day in. I use a 20 bottle that for some reason or another, I bought when I wanted a bottle of water. I just wash it and reuse it as needed. Using this method, I drink 1 bottle in the morning, 1 bottle for lunch, and then 1 bottle in the afternoon. I also drink water after a work out. Weekends are harder, but I will usually fill up my bottle and take it with my when doing errands.

I have now gotten in the habbit of drinking at least 4-6 glasses a day. I know you are to drink 8 but 4-6 is better than my none. I received an e-mail from a friend regarding the drinking of water. I will post it as soon as I get home but I had to respond to this when I saw it.

One of the reasons why you may feel so tired and drained is because we don't drink enough water. Water is our filtering system, therefore, we really need it.

As for the container, I re-use some of the bottles that I buy the water in after they get washed with very hot water. Other times I use my travel mug. Being that I teach in HS I am forever moving around so it has to "travel". I will post the info on water consumption when I get home.

I have to drink at least 64 oz. a day, especially in the winter or else my skin gets all dry and itchy. My preferred vessel is a 16 oz. plastic mug from Bethlehem's Celtic Classic.

This is the water info. Karen

This is pretty interesting, from a research guy here at work. *Da
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++
We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written
down like this before.

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world
pop.) In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often
mistaken for hunger.
Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. One
glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the
dieters studied in a U-Washington study.
Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. Preliminary research
indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back
and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. A mere 2% drop in body water
can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and
difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by
45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%
less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of
water you should every day?

I never track my water consumption, but I'm sure I get enough. I rarely drink anything but water, and I constantly have it with me.

The cat posts are cracking me up!! Luckily, none of my cats (I have 3) put their paws in my water, but I do have one who likes to play a lot in his own water bowl. The problem is, he gets so much dirt in the bowl that the other cats don't want to drink out of it! Its so cute listening to him playing in it though, that I don't have the heart to stop him.

Karen,

Thank you SO much for posting that info! I had heard that before, but it is a good reminder for everyone! I get LOTS of water each day (make a conscious effort to) but I know that DH and DD are as dehydrated as potato chips!!!! - so I am going to print it out and leave it on the table for them!

Thanks again
Lynn

Karen, my MIL wants to know if this has any scientific backing and where it came from. Can you give me that info, please?

luv2cook, If anyone wants scientific backing pick up a copy of "Your Bodies Many Cries For Water". It is a fantastic book for anyone who questions the whole water thing.

I have digestive and medical problems forcing me to drink lots of water. I've gotten used to it though. I never drink less than 10 8-ounce glasses, but I couldn't go over 12. I sip on it throughout the day and take a bottle with me everywhere.

Glad the info was so helpful. I know it reminded me.

Luv2cook: I will e-mail my friend, who got it from a researcher friend of hers. When I get it I can e-mail you with it.

Hoped it helped!

Have a super day! :-)
