Hello All!

May 16, 2004, is the annual Great Strides Walk (www.cff.org/great_strides) for cystic fibrosis at 9:30am in Cummings Park, Stamford, CT. The event is a 10k walk held to raise money for research to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease affecting roughly 30,000 children and adults in the United States. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation uses the money raised during this walk to support a network of research and gene therapy centers at major universities across the US, research grants for new drugs, and a nationwide network of 110+ specialty care centers dedicated to treating CF. In 1955, the average CF sufferer didn't live to go to elementary school. Now, thanks to strides made through research supported by this and other groups, the median age is early thirties.

You might wonder why I am writing to notify you of all of this. I am walking in honor of my best friend, Heather Albrecht-Herman, who passed away two weeks ago at the age of 24, after fighting a courageous battle against her illness. Heather had recently graduated from Concordia College in Ann Arbor, MI, as a teacher and was planning to devote her life to helping others. If you would like to make a contribution/sponsor me in my walk, please contact me via PM or you can use this link (http://secure.cff.org/great_strides/make_personal_donation.cfm?idOnlineFundInvitee=262 87). The link is secured and is tracking the donations as 'CookingLight', so your personal information will not be sent to me unless you decide to do so independently. Every dollar makes a difference and no donation is too small. So far, I've raise $225 in her name, through small donations from friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintences. If you'd like to come out and walk with us, that'd be great too! Our team name is Heather's Hikers - just let me know and I'll add you to the list.

Thanks a lot all! Appreciate any help and support (and positive thoughts) you might be willing to pass along!

~Sarah
