I collect glass. I have two cabinets devoted to Fire King Jadite pieces. Canister sets, salt and peppers, the ball pitcher...mostly the good stuff. I also have a tall cabinet cabinet, that I have enough orange iridescent carnival glass to fill. I have enough green and cobalt carnival glass to fill a shelf in the living room.

Here is the problem. Many years ago, my grandmother gave me a Blue Danube Tea Set. My grandfather's employees took up a collection and purchased this tea set for him about 55 years ago. She gave it to me when I was 14 and told me to NEVER tell her daughters because they both wanted it. I always went over and helped her do her spring cleaning and every year I would get it out and gingerly handle it...oohing and aahing it.

It has sat on the bottom of the glass sided cabinet and I now need that shelf for te carnival glass. I don't know what to do with it. Where would you display this tea set. Would it be ok if I packed it up in a box? I have carried this tea set with me, every where I have ever lived and never broken a piece. I feel kind of guilty putting it away.

Ideas?

Maybe you could rotate displays for different seasons? If the tea set looks more springy/wintery than the other glass, display it during that season and store it the rest of the year.

I know exactly what you mean about the guilt, but remember, your grandmother would probably care more that you CARE about the set than that you display it.
