Anyone still watching, or did we all decide we don't give a rat's @ss who wins anymore?? ;)
Jasmine: Let's PLEASE put this poor girl out of her misery. She was horrible tonight on the first two songs, and the third was only marginally better (if you ignored the part where it sounded like she was screaming at the top of her lungs). And her outfit? The blue shimmery thing with the matching eyeshadow??? <shudder> Am I hoping for too much to think she might just respectfully withdraw to save herself and America future embarrassment??
Diana: Ditto. She was not impressive tonight on her first two songs (and the second one was downright BAD), but the last one was much better. If I had turned AI on for the first time early in tonight's show, I would wonder how in h*ll's name she made it this far. The fact that she's so inconsistent is one reason I don't think she's star quality. And the sleek, super-straight hairstyle is not flattering. :o
Fantasia: Outstanding. She sounded terrific on all her songs, especially the first.

Well, Fantasia is my choice. I tried to vote but could not get through, so I hope that is a good sign. She is so consistant in her performances. Jasmine really needs to be booted off. She didn't do justice to any of the songs tonight, and I thought that Diana was much better than she was (even if she shouts).

hmm... i respectfully disagree. i think diana was great, she looked waaaay better than she did in some of those unfortunate pooch oufits, and she sang well on the last one or two (i agreed with simon on the first, she did scream it) ... it's fantasia that gets on my nerves. of course, i could be a little bias, seeing as diana is a favorite down here in HOTlanta, but it just seems like fantasia doesn't sing . don't get me wrong, she has enough personality for everyone of the twelve finalists, but somthing about her singing style just bothers me. on the other side, diana is sickly perky sometimes ... kind of hard to see through that "mask" of a child entertainer.
and then there's jasmine. she's cute as a button ( i liked her make-up!) , but she just wasn't on par with diana or fantasia, or truthfully, with many of the last few to be booted off.
what i do like about this competition so far is that the judges are trying to have the contestants put their mark on the song. i'm not a big fan of fantasia, but she does put her mark on it (i just don't like the mark most of the time!) . if diana would work on being less of a good copier and more like an individual artist, i think she'd have a better shot at winning...

The judges were a little obvious in trying to force America to vote for Fantasm. She's okay, definitely has a natural performing talent somewhere in there. But I don't really like gospel/blues that much, and in my opinion that's what she's so good at. I think it's just that she stands out against the competition. I did like Diana last night, but she's not an American idol either.

You're not far off base there. :D I not nearly as interested in the competition this time as I was with the Clay/Ruben competition last time. That was so exciting...you just KNEW they each had excellent talent. Even when Kimberly was still in the competition, they were all so good!
Fantasia's style of music isn't to my taste, but I think she's incredibly talented! That girl can sing!!
Diana is ok. I think she really did well over the past few weeks, but I don't think she has star quality.
Jasmine just needs to go. Even though she is cute as a button, probably has a wonderful personality, blah blah blah...I think because of her, this competition is a joke.
It's unfortunate this competition isn't based on talent this time. If it had truely been based on talent, we would very likely be looking at Fantasia, LeToya, and Jennifer. Those girls could sing.
They keep playing advertisements on the radio of "How would YOU like to attend the live finale of American Idol?!!" I usually mumble back to the radio, 'nah...no need.' :D I'm interested in seeing who wins...but I'm not excited about it. I almost forgot it was on last night. It's just not fun this time.

We didn't even watch last night ... we actually weren't home, but if this had been last year, I would have taped it. This year we didn't even care. I'm with Melman - not nearly as into it as I was with Clay/Ruben/Kimberly towards the end. Not all that enamored with any of the remaining contestants.
Sigh ...

Well, I wanted to protest LaToya's departure by not watching, but I watched. :)
I totally agree with Eva's assessment about the performances.
If Fantasia gets voted off, our whole family will boycott next week!!!

I taped it last night as we were out at a concert; we got home too late for me to vote.
I thought Jasmine's performances ranged from bland to bad.
I didn't care for either of Diana's first two songs, but thought she was extremely good on "Don't Cry Out Loud."
I thought all 3 of Fantasia's performances were great and hope to see her in the final two tonight.

I was busy with my new ipod and itunes, and I completely forgot about it until 8:55 pm. :o :p
I caught Diana's last performance, and inasmuch as I've disliked her earlier performances, I thought she rocked on "Don't Cry Out Loud". I got to see the recaps of the others, which wasn't much, but based on that, I'd like to see Fantasia and Diana in the finals.
Simply said, as long as Jasmine doesn't win, I'll be happy.

This was the first episode I have watched since the finalists were selected. :o
Fantasia is amazing. I love that style because it's hers. Not Britany's, not Christina's, not Pink's, not anyone else but HER OWN! It's hard to find someone who is actually unique in the music business these days. Paula was right - she doesn't need this competition.
Diana and Jasmine are too young. The reason for their inconsistency is not just that they are emotionally young, but their voices are immature. And Diana needs to quit belting it or she's not going to HAVE a voice by the time she's 25. They are both talented (Diana more than Jasmine) but they need to go home and go to high school and take voice lessons and come back in 5 years.

Hijacking for a moment, but eeeeeeeee! Yay, you got an ipod!!! Do you love it? I am addicted to iTunes. :D
Rebecca, I totally agree about Fantasia being unique. I can't wait to hear what kind of album she puts out.

Continuation of hijack alert.....whoop whoop whoop ;)
Is there a cult, sort of like for Subarus? Because I've spent the last 3 nights tied to my home computer. Thank God for Jim, an amazingly patient person. :D
This was an Administrative Professionals Week gift from my boss (don't get me started on how incredible he is). It's the coolest thing!!! And itunes? I think I need to set an allowance for myself. I've already spent $20 in the last 3 days......:o
Back to your regularly-scheduled topic :p

We tried to vote for Fantasia and could not get through - even in final minutes. I hope this is a good sign. I have enjoyed her performances for the start. Although her style of music isn't what I would listen to all day long, her talent makes me want to listen to her. I really hope that she wins next week.
SandyM - enjoy your I-Pod. :D

Fantasia and Diana, respectively, have been my favorites since Amy was kicked off. As much as I'd like to see Fantasia win, I hope that she doesn't. I feel that she will do soooo much better on her own. I haven't been able to figure out her style until last night. She puts a gospel touch to her songs. She is singing from her heart. I LOVE IT !!!! So, I hope that Diana wins. She will do well as a "pop idol".

This is the first episode I have watched since the auditions in which I also watched one episode...wait there may have been one more, but that's it.
The show kind of embodies a couple of the reasons I got out of singing. People like Jasmine being so far along in this competition who clearly doesn't belong there. Judges being downright awful to her in front of the world. IMO if the voting is going to be that scewed (sp?), they need to relook this whole show. The answer is not totally making this girl feel like cr@p...in a way it's not her fault. It's up to people who are instructing her, coaching her,and giving her advice to CONSTRUCTIVELY offer suggestions for improvement. The sad thing is this girl is going to be shamed into never opening her mouth again. There is definitely a voice there...she's pushing it so it goes sharp. But it's clear, focused etc. She's just young and needs to learn how to project without shouting it.
Fantasia is awesome but it's not because I think she's the best singer. However she, to me, is the most individual and the most "packaged". She reminds me of young Aretha and even a little Tina. I personally liked the second song the best. Her breathing is terrible and it could be partially nerves..it especially shows in the ballady stuff. She's going places IMO. But her voice is a little annoying..it borders on nasally and a little too "baby dolly" (I don't know how else to describe it)it comes out on more songs than others.
Diana has hands down the best pipes. There is no question. It blows my mind that she is 16. She did shout on the first one but the others were better and the third shows what is to come. What she doesn't have that Fantasia has is the "package" and uniqueness. She's just got to find her own personality and that will come with a little age. She has the perfect broadway voice and hopefully with a little quidance will be a force not to reckon with. She needs to work on her visual presentation too. I don't think the outfit was the best choice and the hair should be a little more away from the face...I'm one of these people that think singers should really not have bangs..we need to see expression and eyes :D As far as her belt, it actually sounds pretty healthy. It's clear as a bell, no rasp, no little trembles or jaw tension (Fantasia has it). She's just doing what a lot of singers do which is push it a bit in overexcitement.
I'll step off my soapbox now :o

DH and I were sitting there las tnight thinking the both juedges and clive picked worse songs for Jasmine and Diana to make Fanatasia look better. Would they really do that?? it sure seemed that way.
Fanatasia has a great voice - but is not my kind of music, but what I do like that she does consistantly and does a fantastic job on it that I dont think Diane and Jasmine can do is "make the song their own" by putting a different spin on it. And teh judges keeps aying this over and over to the other, this is what they need to be doing and not just regurgitating the songs

I think this is where their age affects them. I think that Diana has a beautiful voice, but she's 16 and it shows.

I was so disenchanted when LaToya got the boot last week that I barely watched it last night, when normally I would be glued to the screen. I did watch the E! True Story of American Idol (parts of it) where they rehashed most of Season 1 and some of Season 2 and 3...
I hope Fantasia wins. I loved Jasmine in the beginning, but she isn't Idol material. If she wins, I will be upset.
Diana is a good singer, but I think her personality is too peppy and young.
I boycotted it last night, then walked through the livingroom only to find that DD and DH were watching it. So of course I stopped and caught part of it.
Hopefully Fantasia will remain tonight. Diana is just too perky for me - I keep expecting her to break out pompoms and start doing a cheer. And Jasmine, well, there's nothing I can say about her that hasn't already been said.
I had to laugh when Paula told Fantasia that she doesn't even need this competition. Very true, and yet I see her fitting the American Idol mold more than Jennifer or LaToya could have. And I'm sure they have great careers ahead of them regardless. I'm sure Diana will do well no matter what happens. And woe to the record company that might offer Jasmine a contract!

Did anyone watch Monday night's show where they interviewed the judges and three finalists? I have to say, the more I hear Fantasia one-on-one, the less arrogant she seems to me and the more I like her. I have done almost a complete 180 from earlier in the competition when I couldn't stand her. On the other hand, the more I hear Diana one-on-one, the less I can stand her. She's just SO young. I mean, I know she's 16, but Jasmine is 17 (I think; maybe 16?) and Fantasia is 19. They're all young. I love that Jasmine can act her age yet still be very mature and thoughtful. Diana is just young and immature, IMO. Sue said it best when she said you just expect her to break out in a cheer. I have nothing against peppy, but her peppiness is just SO annoying. :o And her laugh just makes me cringe.

My prediction is she will get some v.j. offer for mtv or some kind of spokesperson ryan seacrest type offer. She would actually be great with that.

I agree it shows in their age, but when Jasmine ahd trouble hitting the low notes, I think that has been her trouble all along, she can only sing certain songs, becasue of her range. Diana reminds of Annie in the orphan annie movie, I see her a a broadway type stage presence, not AI material, As for Fantasia, again, couldnt believe Clive picked that celine dion song for her sing, was thinking how is going to do this, but she sang her own style and she was fantastic IF she tried to copy celine she would have bombed

Warning: Spoiler post!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, she certainly didn't seem too upset about being voted off. In fact, DW & I both thought Diana & Fantasia were more upset than Jasmine.
Should make for a good final, though.
I agree Ralph! She seemed happier tonight than she has in the past few weeks when she has made it to the next round. Relief, perhaps? ;)

I also have completely changed my opinion about Fantasia. She was fantastic last night -- she left Diana and Jasmine in the dust. I thought she was so obnoxious in the beginning but she started to grow on me as the season went on. She really hooked me on the night she sang the Barbra Streisand song and dedicated it to her daughter. It was a gorgeous performance. Fantasia is especially strong on ballads because she does a good job of "telling the story" -- I hope that whatever song AI picks out for her as her breakout song isn't too cheesy...but if history repeats itself, I am sure it will be!!
Good luck, Fantasia!

This thread cracks me up.
We were relieved last night too. Although I'm getting really annoyed with the way they drag the whole thing out for an hour. They're really milking it. It should just be a 1/2 hour show. At least that's my opinion.
We didn't watch Tuesday night, but it sounds like the vote finally went the right way.
I also didn't watch the first season, but I'm amazed that Tamyra didn't win over Kelly Clarkson, who I think is just okay.
And I'm also really rooting for Fantasia - I'm with you kcmo - she annoyed the **** out of me in the beginning but she's grown on me and seems much less full of herself. And she's had some awesome moments throughout the season - such as the Porgy and Bess song.
Next week should be interesting!

What a relief! I think both Fantasia and Diana will have great futures. They have such completely different sounds. Fantasia just seems more of a natural talent.

Of course Fantasia was the better of the two last night. BUT...am I the only one who thought Tamyra's song was written especially for Fantasia? It was a little unfair to give this particular song to both of them, when it was so biased to her voice. Or is she just more talented? I'm glad this season is over. I couldn't seem to stop watching, but it was rather painful most of the time!

I only half watched last night - I really want Fantasia to win, but at this point don't care as much as I have in the past.
Tamyra's song that both the contestants had to sing I guess was interpreted differently depending on the singer - I think Fantasia made it much more special than Diana did. In general, I just think Fantasia is in a different league than DIana, although I think Diana is a good singer. Plus, Fantasia's personality stands out more - Diana is kinda...plastic.
Slightly OT, but man, Tamyra is a multi-talented wonder. I thnk it's great she can write and sing. I'm kinda glad she didn't win over Kelly, because that meant she got to take time with her album and make it more her own. I listened to some samples on iTunes of her new CD and it's definetly more her style, plus she co-write a bunch of stuff, or wrote them entirely.
