I am valiantly trying to increase my consumption of good carbs and gradually eliminate the processed stuff. Pretzels are a mainstay of my diet--I literally eat some every day--and I have not been able to find a whole wheat version anywhere. Occasionally Wild Oats carries spelt pretzels and even less often a whole wheat and honey pretzel with sesame seeds. But what I really want is just a plain, salty, pretzel just like the ones I usually eat (Snyder's sourdough or Rold Gold minis) but made from whole grain. Does anyone know of an internet or national source?

Trader Joe's carries honey wheat pretzels, although I'm not sure whether they are whole wheat or not. They also carry soy pretzels, which may or may not have white flour in addition to the soy flour. Both are good, although the soy pretzels are what they are -- definitely not like traditional pretzels.

I too am a pretzel junkie. I don't think that these are whole wheat, but if you try them you may not care.

Martins Pretzels (http://www.martinspretzels.com/)

I found them watching Food Finds on Food Network. You can watch the clip from the show at their site as well. They do mail order and if you love pretzels, these are the real deal.

Happy crunching,
Richard

P.S. By the way, just to demonstrate my ignorance, what does ISO stand for?

Snyder's of Hanover offers Oat Bran, Pumpernickle and Onion, and Honey Wheat in their Organic line. I don't know what portion of the flour used to make these pretzels is whole grain, though. I doubt it's 100%, but it's better than your standard sourdough or white pretzel.

I've had Synder's Pumpernickle and Onion--very good--not your typical pretzel.

I highly recommend TJ's honey whole wheat pretzel sticks. They are delicious and very addictive. My husband and I keep them in a container that's easily accessible and we grab them anytime we're in the mood for snacking.:)

I finally found the Pumpernickel pretzels last weekend. So, so good! You are right, it is not like a typical pretzel at all.

As far as "everyday" pretzels I really like the spelt pretzels from Vita Spelt (http://www.purityfoods.com/index2.html).

We used to buy Rold Gold "Heartzels". They are whole wheat pretzels and were really good. They disappeared several months ago and I haven't found a replacement. They still show them on their web site so I'm hopeful that it's just a production issue.
