Ok, this is my very first swap to participate in and my partner is in Canada. I went and put together and boxed everything (actually think I did a pretty good job for my first time) and now I just took it over to a postal place to mail. It cost $22.87!!!!!! I was thinking $10 or something, but this cost more than my contents!!!!!!!
Anybody else find this out or did I just purchase items that were too heavy, i.e. in a jar? It's all good, not a big deal, it's just that I was sorta shocked!!

I think that someone may have said in another thread that if you marked it as a gift, that postage was cheaper? I can't remember. I knew it would be a lot when I mailed Linda's package, last year..She even commented on how much I paid as opposed to what she paid for postage.

Acck.. I feel so guilty. I don't understand why it costs so much.. I had a box of spices mailed to me from Texas and it was about 10 bucks.(I think). Maybe I should send you another parcel to make up for it:).
I mailed yours this morning.

LOL Linda, seriously, only shocked cuz I had no idea, not a big deal!! I'm excited for you to get it, I hope you like it! I figured my package would cost "almost" as much to send it back my way? I have no idea!
AND, the guy at the postal place asks me, Are you sure Canada will take this? I said, huh? I dunno.... I said, will it come back to me if they don't take it? Nope, I have to pay to send it back here. lol Let me know when you receive it, and I will post too!! YAY, i'm so excited!!!!!!!!!

I have to send birthday and Christmas gifts to Canada, and it is expensive ($10 for 2 CDs one time  ). It is partly dependent on weight, so if you have jarred items, that will make it more expensive. I've finally decided to order online from Canadian companies, which saves a lot on shipping (although the cost of giftwrap seems to make up for it  ).
Pammela, you're not alone. Mine was like that and only went to CA. I started out thinking about what would ship better and not buying anything. After a while, I just got what seemed like fun and put it together. Then I found a spot that just fit a jar of pepper jelly in the middle and threw that in too -- without thinking that I had just added another pound. :D Mine was all fun and worth it both ways. Hope yours will be too.

It wasn't the pepper jellys fault that the package was heavy...I think it was the onions :D My kids just kept staring at them Shocked that they were SO big.

Wow, that does seem expensive. I shipped my XMAS gifts to England for around $50 CDN. That's goes much further. Wowsers.

Mine was almost that much, but I kind of expected it. I did buy heavy things. :D :D
It shipped mine air-parcel, with delivery of 5-10 days. Economy-parcel is less expensive, but delivery time is 3-6 weeks, depending on where it's going (Hungary takes a long time). I clearly marked it as a 'gift' to avoid duty on the receiving end.

Shipping isn't cheaper, but they may not have to pay duty when it comes across the border. In past swaps, I've had less difficulty with USPS/Canada Post than with UPS, for anyone who hasn't shipped yet. Has anyone north of 49 mailed yet? I'm wondering what the customs declaration form looks like  I know it's changed.

Weren't those pretty? :D I couldn't eat a burger that a full slice of those would fit on! I have always wanted to make onion rings with one of those, but the frying part gets in the way. Anyone know of a good way to make baked onion rings? :)

I remember making them, and thought they were pretty good, although I had a hard time getting the batter to stick.
Sorry for hijacking the thread...

When my swap partner was Natasha, I checked the typical shipping options. I think UPS was the cheapest with that delivery. I've found FedEx to usually be the cheapest with most of my other (limited) shipping.
