I made these a few weeks ago as well and we liked them, but would probably leave out the pepper in future batches. It seemed to give them kind of a weird aftertaste. I also used 1/2 whole wheat pastry flour & had fine results.

The Spicy Oatmeal Crisps(December 2000 issue) are wonderful! I substituted whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose and they turned out great. I did bake them a bit longer than the recipe states, but I use a stone and that may be the reason. Enjoy!

i followed the recipe as is. i did not omit the pepper. i found these cookies to be very good. mine were crispy on the edges but chewy in the middle. perfect!

We also loved these. I used 1/8 tsp pepper and that seemed perfect. I also got the exact yield of two dozen, which was amazing to me.
