Help! Found a recipe that I'm making for dinner tonight calling for Greek Seasoning. Is this a common seasoning that I will likely find at my local grocery store (Safeway or Albertsons), or should I go to a specialty store? Can I make it myself? If so, what does it consist of?
Thanks,

Greek seasoning is found with the regular spices. I have found it at BiLo and Harris Teeter as well as other stores. It shouldn't be hard to find. Look in the area around the seasoned salt and items like that on the spice isle. It is great to use on chicken when grilling or in lots of other foods. Good luck!

A brand of Greek seasoning that has been mentioned several times on this board is Cavender's. I found it in my Harris Teeter. If you can't find that brand, I am sure your grocery store will have at least one mix that calls itself Greek!
See this post for a description of Cavender's and a list of the ingredients: http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Forum1/HTML/000496.html

Thanks so Lynn and Eloise for the information. I found Greek Seasoning at my local grocery store. The only brand they had was Spice Island and a 1.5 oz bottle cost me $4.89!
The list of ingredients on the jar I bought is "dehydrated onion, dehydrated garlic, spices. salt and mint leaf". Doesn't sound anything like the description on the link you posted Eloise, which was "salt, black pepper, corn starch, garlic, MSG, oregano, flavor base seasoning(hydrolozed corn soy protein, sugar, onion powder, spice extrative), parsley and five other spices".
Maybe that's why my recipe last night was a dud!

I almost hate to bring up a much-discussed spice catalog/website. Penzey's Greek seasoning is wonderful!! Their ingredient list is: coarse salt, garlic, lemon, black pepper, Turkish oregano, marjoram.
PS...I've been doing my own personal boycott of Spice Island because they don't smell as fresh as Penzey's or Just Herbs, have too many ingredients that I don't recognize, and it's a grocery store ripoff!

I'd like to second the vote on Penzey's Greek seasoning. It is a staple in my cupboard. It is outstanding on grilled chicken, among so many other dishes.
