I got a new oval shaped crockpot for Christmas and I have noticed that it seems to be much hotter than my old one. For instance, today I am making DH's favorite cheesy chicken dish. Normally I would use the chicken breasts staight out of the freezer, set the crockpot on low and it would be perfect when we ate dinner (roughly 9 or 10 hours). Well I went home at lunch to check on it and was surprised to find it bubbling away and cheese and potato burnt to the side! This crockpot has 3 settings low, high, and keep warm. Is it possible that the "keep warm" setting is the same as low on my other crockpot (which is about 10 years old)?

I remember reading on previous crockpot threads about other people having that same problem. (I tried doing a search for the site but could not find it.) Someone said that the new crock pots have a higher cooking temperature. Something to do with keeping the food at a safe temperature maybe?
I don't know if the keep warm setting would get the results you want, but I would give it a try on a day when you'll be around the house to keep an eye on it.

I thought I had seen a previous thread that mentioned something like this as well. I searched but couldn't find it. I think that I'm probably just going to adjust my cooking times on things. Most likely come home at lunch and start dinner then. Although when I got home on Thursday night the "keep warm" setting was still bubbling, so I may try that one day when I'm home to watch it. Thanks for letting me know that you saw that previous thread as well -- I was beginning to think I was loosing my mind.

I found an old post which addresses cooking times and the newer crockpots. I shot it up to the top of the topics because I don't know how to insert a link into this message. (sorry I am not so computer savvy) If you read through the posts, you will find helpful information. It is also called "crockpot question" I hope this helps you.
